We just got our first look at Fitbit's upcoming fitness smartwatches

We've just taken a look at Fitbit's next two fitness-focused smartwatches thanks to new product images.

Apparently, the fitness tech brand is set to launch an all-new Fitbit Versa 4 and Fitbit Sense 2 in the not-too-distant future based on images found by 9to5Google (opens in a new tab) made public by a regulatory body.

The Versa 4, the more conventional and probably the cheaper of the two, doesn't look all that different from its predecessor. Its design, once again, seems to lack an ECG sensor, an electrocardiogram sensor capable of detecting irregular heartbeats that until now was exclusive to Fitbit's Sense range.

The images also suggest it will still have GPS, be waterproof to 50m and have a microphone so you can use voice commands and turn on snore detection. What's more interesting, though, is that instead of getting new features, you lose one.

Unless Fitbit has come up with a new method of temperature tracking, the Fitbit Versa 4 appears to lack this feature altogether, according to 9to5Google.

The Sense 2 received a few more tweaks than the Versa 4, though many of them were pretty minor.

Design-wise, it looks pretty similar to the original Fitbit Sense, but with a touch button and sensor placement discussed above. The original button on the Sense wasn't really a proper button, as when pressed it didn't go into the watch and just vibrated in response to touch, but Fitbit has changed that on the Sense 2. Based on the pictures, it looks like this This time it will be a really moving element.

Furthermore, the ECG sensor built into the watch case seems to have changed as well. Instead of being a ring that wraps around the watch, it now sits below the outer edges of the screen. Hopefully it won't affect performance at all, but we'll have to test it to be sure.

Finally, as spotted by 9to5Google, the watch's rear sensor array has been updated. It's still unclear if the new design facilitates new features or just makes it better at doing what Sense was already capable of. Interestingly, the Versa 4 appears to have made no changes to its lineup. Along with the loss of temperature tracking, this lack of tech updates could be an attempt to drive the Versa down in price, to highlight the Fitbit Sense 2 as the "premium" option.

It's unclear when Fitbit will say something more official about the Versa 4 and Sense 2, although some people theorize it will be in September based on previous releases. With these images now made public, Fitbit will likely want to make an announcement soon to regain control of the narrative, but we'll have to wait and see.
