CD Projekt Red plans to develop several new Witcher games beyond The Witcher 4 as it expands the series into a second saga.
Speaking about The Witcher 4 during CD Projekt's latest earnings call (opens in a new tab), CEO Adam Kiciński outlined the studio's plans for the series. While the next Witcher title is still in its early stages of development, the publisher is already thinking about sequels in the works.
"There will be a new saga," Kiciński said. “Now we are pre-producing the first game in this saga, but we have several in mind. The first saga was three games, so now we are thinking of more than one game.

When The Witcher 4 was announced, CD Projekt confirmed that the game would launch "a new saga in the franchise." Kiciński's comments here fit that tease, but also give us a better idea of what this new saga will be like.
Instead of a new game with several expansions, or a new main title with small spin-offs, the second series will include several complete games. With Kiciński drawing comparisons between this second upcoming Witcher saga and the first, a new trilogy could be on the cards.
There are still plenty of directions a possible trilogy could go, but at least one key mystery has already been solved. The unique teaser image that was released for The Witcher 4 shows a medallion buried in the snow. It turns out that it's not just any locket, but a lynx-shaped pendant, confirming that the upcoming game will focus on a new school of Witcher.
Elsewhere on the earnings call, it was reiterated that The Witcher 4 will be built with Unreal Engine 5 instead of CD Projekt's in-house REDengine that powered Cyberpunk 2077. Game director Jason Slama said the team had decided to move on to the top of Epic. -the online system after seeing the impressive live demo.
Although The Witcher 4 may be several years away, you don't have to spend all that time waiting to get your fix of European monster-hunting folklore. A brilliant Witcher card game released earlier this year, and The Witcher 3 update for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S is scheduled to hit stores in late 2022.
