The next Netflix movie you should watch is Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods

The next Netflix movie to add to your watch list is Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods, which will be released on June 12. This is Lee's first film for the streaming service (although he did do the Netflix TV version of She's Gotta Have It), and his latest project after 2018's famed BlacKkKlansman. Da 5 Bloods is about four Vietnam War veterans. African-Americans (played by Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis and Isiah Whitlock Jr) who return home years later to find the bodies of their late squadron captain. (played by Chadwick Boseman) so they can give him a proper burial in the United States. They also have another program: to recover extremely precious buried treasures lost by the CIA. Check out the trailer below: The flashback footage perfectly captures the aesthetic of current events, and we can't wait to see it. Oddly enough, the writers for Da 5 Bloods include Danny Bilson and the late Paul DeMeo, who co-wrote Disney's cult hit The Rocketeer. They wrote a script called The Last Tour in 2013, which was later adapted into a story about African-American veterans by Lee and screenwriter Kevin Willmott. Lee spoke to Vanity Fair about the film, citing Apocalypse Now and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre as influences. In fact, the trailer features a strong visual reference to the classic Coppola, and surely it's impossible to make a movie about the Vietnam War without mentioning it a bit.

Netflix and the great directors

Netflix's attempts to create award-winning movies that don't follow traditional release models have been controversial in recent years. But with theaters unlikely to reopen in the US and UK before July, Da 5 Bloods couldn't have had a more captivating audience. Netflix's work with renowned filmmakers has produced great movies in recent years: Noah Baumbach's Wedding Story, Alfonso Cuaron's Roma and The Irishman, to name a few. For every bad Adam Sandler comedy, there's always something to watch.
