The Kirin 990 chipset was announced at IFA 2019 and will probably power the Huawei Mate 30

Huawei has just announced its next flagship chipset called the Kirin 990, which is expected to power the company's upcoming phones including the Huawei Mate 30 Pro and Huawei P40.

It offers improved performance compared to the last-gen chipset built into devices like the P30 Pro and Mate 20, as well as increased efficiency that should improve battery life during heavy tasks.

Huawei says that the single core performance on this chip is 10% higher than the Kirin 980, while the multi-core performance is 9% higher than the latest generation chipset.

It offers a 76-core Mali G16 GPU which, according to Huawei, offers better performance than its main competitors.

The big update here is that Huawei will include 5G in the chipset, which other competitors have not managed to do yet. This allows Huawei to create a smaller chipset that takes up less space in a device.

Like the Kirin 980, it is also a 7nm chip, designed to leave more space inside your device for the battery and d & # 39; other functions

5G and more

There's also a 4G variant of the chipset, so all future Huawei devices won't support 5G, but this allows the company to implement internet technology in future flagship devices.

Huawei has not yet confirmed which devices will be integrated into the Kirin 990, but we can expect to know more about it in the coming months.

Huawei has confirmed its intention to announce a new device on September 18. It will most likely be Huawei Mate 30 Pro. TechRadar will be in the field to give you the details as soon as we know them.
