Weird tech we bought during lockdown, and how it could help you
Lockdown presented all kinds of challenges for each of us. Whether it's adjusting to working at home, protecting our devices, or finding fun new activities to stave off boredom, we've all had a hard time coping during this difficult time. But being stuck in one place had some advantages. It encouraged us to think outside the box and find new solutions to problems we didn't even know we had. With that in mind, we asked the TechComparison team if they had bought any new technology that they might not have considered before. From beauty products to personal care products and everything in between, here are some of the weird tech we bought during lockdown.

Heattech thermal leggings

(Image credit: Uniqlo) Although summer is fast approaching, my apartment is still a biome of winter chill. Mornings are nice as the sun fills my home office with rays of warm hope, but once afternoon approaches, things get chilly. The sun moves to the opposite side of my apartment, and suddenly I'm plunged into what feels like total darkness. My legs quickly start soaking up as much cold as they can (a trait I apparently inherited from my grandfather), and suddenly I feel like the lower half of my body is submerged in a bath. of ice My solution? Thermal leggings. Specifically, I opted for Uniqlo's impressive Heattech range, designed to keep you warm without the discomfort of wearing a second pair of pants. Heattech is made from a special blend of materials that wick moisture from your body into the fibers and convert its kinetic energy into heat. They are honestly a game changer, and without the lock, there would be no way I would have had the foresight to buy them. Now my pins are hot, rain or shine. -Adam Vjestica

Fitfort blackhead remover

(Image credit: Fitfort) I've been using a manual blackhead remover for a while, but when I lost it, I decided it was time to invest in an electronic blackhead remover. It is essentially a small portable vacuum for the face that aims to suck dirt out of the pores, reduce oiliness, and cleanse the skin. The Fitfort blackhead remover comes with a few nozzles to combat large or small blackheads, as well as an exfoliating head for those who want to get rid of dead skin. Basically, it runs the device on your problem areas, absorbs all the nastiness and offers a lot of satisfaction to those who like to see Dr. Pimple Popper and others, they can even see blackheads absorbed into the washable filter! There are different levels of suction depending on the embedment of your pimple, but be careful not to dwell too long on an area where you'll end up with a bunch of little facial hickies...and no one wants that. -Vic Hood

mobile air conditioner

Aire acondicionado móvil

(Image credit: IcyAir) In the UK it's suddenly hot and our homes aren't well equipped to cope with rising temperatures. After some disgusting sticky nights and extremely humid days, we made the call. It was enough. It was time to take a permanent trip to the cool side of the pillow in the form of cooling down an entire room. As we await delivery of our portable air conditioner in a few days, I find myself sweating in front of my laptop, but the gentle release of cool air is now visible on the horizon, and I can't wait. However, how long will it last? Time, I mean. As soon as the UK warms up, it can go in the opposite direction, allowing us to see a white elephant in the corner: buyer's remorse is real, but the promise of an uninterrupted night's sleep is much more appealing. Fingers crossed, Mother Nature keeps her side of the case, to justify our spending. -John McCann

iPhone Sports Band

(Image credit: Comsoon Sports) New York City is slowly emerging from lockdown, and the ability to get out and exercise is a boon for our bike-sharing program, Citibike. I see them everywhere, and with a fraction of car traffic on the streets of Manhattan, I decided to sign up. The only problem? I can't look at my phone while riding - I need two hands on the handlebars (NYC potholes weren't full before and they certainly aren't full now) and Citibike's chunky handlebars discourage mounting smartphones and GoPros, in a boring way . Enter the Comsoon Sports Armband, an armband phone holder with a 360° rotating forearm. This sporty armband clings to my arm and secures my iPhone 11 Pro Max like I'm wearing a full-size Apple Watch. No, I don't use it to irresponsibly text people and watch YouTube videos while cycling; this is useful to know where to go through the Maps app and open the Citibike app to locate an open platform where I can return the bike. Before I locked down, I wouldn't have considered this essential, but now I wear my "iPhone watch" wherever I go and pat myself on the back, both hands free. -Matt Swider

Lego Land Rover Defender 90

(Image credit: Lego) We're all spending a lot more time at home, and there's very little Netflix we can watch, computer games we can play, and fool around on our phones until our eyes get really steady. . To take a break from my eyes, I needed an offline activity, something to occupy my time and mind. Say hello to the Lego Land Rover Defender 90. Ordered from the Lego website, through a money back website, every little bit helps, the Defender arrived in just a few days. It's a big set, with over 2.500 parts and a complex 4-speed sequential gearbox and a 2-lever gear selector to engage high or low speed, all-wheel drive, independent suspension, functional steering, and an inline 6 engine. cylinders with moving pistons. As you can imagine with such a complicated build, I've already worked over seven hours and probably have a few hours left. This mechanical 3D puzzle (not a kid's toy, I tell myself) is a great way to pass the time, and I'm already thinking about what I might get next. -John McCann
