Sony A7C announces new full-frame mirrorless compact range: report

Sony's imaging department seems to be very busy, if the latest reports are to be believed. According to Sony Alpha Rumors, a trusted source for Sony camera news, the company has an entirely new line of full-frame mirrorless cameras in the works, and the first of the new series could be announced as early as September. The rumor site claims to have reliable information from two sources who have "confirmed" the imminent arrival of a "C" series of "super-compact" E-mounts, starting with a model dubbed the "A7C". According to the report, the A7C will have a body similar to Sony's compact APS-C mirrorless line, specifically the A6600, but with the A24.2 III's 7MP full-frame sensor under the hood, similar performance. those of the third generation A7. and it will inherit the fully articulating rear LCD screen from the A7S III. It's also said to come with a pop-up electronic viewfinder found on some of Sony's Cyber-shot RX100 compact cameras.

Other leaked specs for the alleged Sony A7C include a single SD card slot, in-camera USB-C battery charging, built-in Wi-Fi, and integrated microphone and headphone jacks. Sony would win in the vlogging market with the new line, which could offer its fans alternatives to its recently released ZV-1. Unlike the ZV-1, which is an affordable €749 (€699 / AU$1,299) camera, Sony Alpha Rumors claims that the A7C, supposedly an entry-level model, will debut priced at over €2000 ( perhaps over €1500 / AU €2700 in the UK and Australia). The report also claims that a new line of compact lenses dubbed the "V" series is also being produced. It's not yet clear if these are exclusively for C-series cameras, but with an announcement scheduled for mid-September, we'll know soon enough.
