Samsung Galaxy S21 renders show it could be the ugliest phone of 2021

The Samsung Galaxy S21 could bring a cool new feature that we've never seen on a smartphone before: "it's a shame to be seen in public with it." This is because the new renderings show a surprisingly ugly color choice. These new images come from Ishan Agarwal, a renowned leaker; It's unclear if the images were created by Samsung itself and then leaked, or created by the leaker based on information from the company, but give us an idea of the color options of the upcoming Galaxy S21 phone. Four colors are shown, and three look correct if a little dull: these are Phantom Pink (pink), Phantom Gray (black) and Phantom White (white). But the one that piqued our interest, and made us feel dirty to watch, was Phantom Violet.

A purple phantom menace

Great way to use the camera hump and frame for a two-tone finish. #Samsung #GalaxyS21 #GalaxyS21 #GalaxyS21Series pic.twitter.com/wG18Y9uJvv December 17, 2020 The Phantom Violet phone has a two-tone rear — it's mostly a pale pastel purple, but the camera bump is a dazzling golden hue. And... they don't go well together. "Purple and gold cake" now officially joins our list of things that shouldn't go together, right above "pineapple and pizza" and below "lawyer and lemonade." It's a really weird combination that looks like a phone's design version of a typo, an obvious and painful mistake like someone picked the wrong color in Photoshop when it was created. Could this be a real accident, either by the leaker or by Samsung itself? Could be. We wait. We can't imagine anyone wanting this color. Not even Samsung fans. To quote TheComparison associate editor John McCann on the subject, "Is that a bit... garish? Isn't it?" However, there is reason to believe that these renderings are incorrect: the gold camera bump is identical to the one on the Phantom Pink version of the Samsung Galaxy S21, in which it looks much more appropriate. It's possible that whoever created the renditions simply copied and pasted this bump without changing the color, and didn't realize it until it was too late. We hope that's the case, at least because the alternative is someone thinking it looks good. At the very least, that's probably not the full range of Samsung Galaxy S21 color options, as they're a bit boring. Hopefully when the range launches, probably in the first few weeks of 2021, we'll see a better selection.
