Google makes it easier to discover the meaning of ... everything

Chrome for Android has a new feature that lets you look up word definitions with a single tap. Surfing the Internet means knowing not only a lot of information, but also a lot of words, and you don't necessarily know what they all mean. You can of course look up a dictionary, but there may be a better option. Google certainly thinks so, and to make your life easier when it comes to understanding an unfamiliar language, there's a new option for anyone using Chrome on Android. When you come across a word you don't know the meaning of, you can highlight it, copy and paste it into a Google search to find the definition. But Google wants to make it a bit easier, at least if you have an Android phone. Whereas in the past it was possible to highlight a word, long press on it, and use it to search the web, Google now allows you to press to look up not only the meaning of a word, but also its pronunciation.

The meaning of life

Chrome for Android already offers a "Tap to Search" option, but this new feature goes even further. When a word is highlighted in Chrome by long pressing, Chrome now displays a definition in a popup at the bottom of the screen, along with a pronunciation guide. The change appears to apply to everyone using the latest version of Chrome, but you may need to change a setting to turn on the feature if you don't see it. Just head over to chrome://flags/# contextual-search-definition and set the option to 'Enable' Via Android Police
