The PS4 classic God of War now looks better than ever with a surprise new PS5 update. God of War previously took advantage of new Sony hardware to deliver a locked 60fps experience when using performance mode, which was not possible on PS4 Pro. The only caveat was that the game's resolution was dropped to 1080p. However, in an announcement no one saw coming, developer Sony Santa Monica revealed via Twitter that God of War could now run at 60fps and checkerboard 4K (2160p) resolution.

Despite concerns about Sony's commitment to backward compatibility, God of War joins a growing list of PS4 games that have been updated to work or look better than ever on PS5. Days Gone and Ghost of Tsushima have been updated to allow for 60fps gameplay, while even games that haven't received specific fixes have benefited from the more powerful PS5 hardware. God of War is available as part of the PS5 PS Plus Collection, which includes the 20 best PS4 games that subscribers can download.
