Breath of the Wild multiplayer has a release window, and it's soon

An upcoming multiplayer mod for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that will let you play the open-world adventure with your friends will be released in just a few months.

The as-yet-unnamed Breath of the Wild mod was teased last year by speedrunner and YouTuber Eric 'PointCrow' Morino, who announced a €10,000 payout (opens in a new tab) for anyone developing the mod. . They've now released a short clip of the project in action, showing three playable Links traversing the Grand Plateau together.

In the accompanying Tweet, Morino said the mod will "come to my channels Summer 2022" - that is, anytime between June, July and August, for those not in the game. 'hemisferio norte.

An odd way of putting the release date, Morino clarified to Dexerto (opens in a new tab) that the mod will first be featured on his personal YouTube channel before being made available for free after they've "created enough content to your surroundings". . .

In his original pitch for the mod, Morino said that they would like a week or two of exclusive streaming before its public release. So he won't be waiting too long to get his hands on it after he's featured on PointCrow's YouTube channel (opens in a new tab).

"It's functional, it runs at 28fps minimum and you can be anywhere in the game," Morino told Dexerto.

"The mod needs to be tweaked on more specific things like Cryonis, rune support, quest timing, etc," they added. #

better with friends

Morino originally released the mod as a multiplayer overhaul that would allow multiple players to explore Breath of the Wild without restriction, allowing two players to complete separate games simultaneously. They also clarified that the mod will be completely free and will work through peer-to-peer networks, without the need for public servers.

Although the mod was first described as supporting 2-player multiplayer, three players can be seen walking together in the short video. The developers who took over the project, who go by modding controllers Sweet and Alex Mangue, may have developed the initial brief.

A separate video that Alex Mangue uploaded to his personal YouTube channel appears to show an early prototype of the mod in action. It contains everything you would expect; three players traversing the open world, fighting enemies and collecting secrets.

It is not yet known whether the upcoming mod will work on the Nintendo Switch or a PC emulator of the handheld console.

Notably, Morino also clarified that the mod needs to be completed two months before the release of Breath of the Wild 2. That certainly won't be a problem now that the sequel has been pushed back to next year.
