Arcane season 2: cast, potential plot and what we know so far

Arcane Season 2 seems to be a long way off at this point. Netflix's hit animated show, based on Riot Games' iconic League of Legends (LoL) gaming franchise, is one of the best animated TV shows of all time, so it's no surprise that it has a following.

And don't just take our word for it. When we spoke to the cast and crew ahead of Arcane Season 1, it seemed like it would be a Netflix series to watch. But we (or anyone else, frankly) weren't expecting Arcane's first season to receive another certified 100% rating on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. Or that the show will compete for nine Annie Awards at this year's ceremony. But it is, which is why Arcane was definitely another big win for Netflix.

Still, don't expect Arcane Season 2 to arrive anytime soon. Its creators have confirmed that it will be another 12 months before the next installment in the series arrives, so we'll just have to rewatch Season 1 over and over again to help us out.

Meanwhile, what do we know about the second season of Arcane? Last I heard, Fortiche Productions, the company behind the show's beautiful animation style and art, is hiring to work on Season 2.

Below, you'll also find more news and information about Arcane season 2. We've dug into its potential release date, cast members likely to return, story threads that will need to be continued or resolved, and more aun. Full spoilers for the show's first season follow. So just keep reading if you're up to speed or don't mind being spoiled for potential Arcane Season 2 skins.

Arcane Season 2 Release Date

There is no official release date yet for Arcane Season 2. However, we do know that it is on the way, following the announcement that the series will return after the end of Season 1:

Get ready, friends. Arcane Season 2 is currently in production. Where is a Hexgate when you need one? pic.twitter.com/3aUeWuQ5UuNovember 21, 2021

The sneak peek above doesn't drop anything, aside from revealing that Season 2 is in production and that three characters from Season 1 will be returning (more on that later). Still, we're thrilled that Arcane is getting a second outing. She certainly deserves one.

But when will it return to Netflix? It's hard to say right now, as we don't know where Season 2 is. But don't expect it to arrive in 2022, according to Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent, who tweeted that the next entry in the series won't be ready. for next year:

So yeah, we're working on #arcane season 2. The good news: you won't have to wait 6 years (the time it took us to make season 1) The bad news: it won't happen in 2022 😢 https://t.co/IQoPyLnw1JNovember 21, 2021

So, expect Arcane Season 2 to drop in 2023. Since Fortiche Productions recently posted a job posting for new FX3D artists for Season 2 (thanks for the warning, Reddit!), the development of Season 2 will also is in its early stages.

We're happy to wait though - the show obviously needs a lot of care and attention to be as good as it is, and rushing it will only result in poor following. Hopefully season 2 will be with us in early 2023 but, even if not, we'd happily wait until December 31, 2023 for the season 2 premiere.

Spoilers for Arcane Season 1 follow. You have been warned.

If you watched the first season of Arcane, you'll know that some characters may not return for their next batch of episodes. In fact, in the season 1 finale, Jinx fired an arcane crystal rocket into the Piltover Council Chamber with many main and supporting characters trapped inside. Those present in the chamber when the rocket exploded included Jayce, Mel, Viktor, Cassandra, Hoskel, Bolbok, Shoola, and Salo.

And we don't expect all of these individuals to survive. If we had to guess, we'd say that Mel and Cassandra, at the very least, will have been killed or seriously injured. This would give Jayce and Caitlyn a huge incentive to pursue Jinx, as Mel and Cassandra are Jayce's partner and Caitlyn's mother, respectively.

So we suspect that in Arcane Season 2, Jayce will go back on her promise to give Zaun independence from Piltover, especially now that Jinx (a citizen of Zaun) has led a terrorist attack against the last council.

Caitlyn might also want revenge if her mother was injured or killed, which would put her at odds with Vi, with whom Caitlyn had become close. After all, the latter is Jinx's sister, so Vi is likely in a difficult situation: helping Caitlyn and Jayce bring her sister to justice, or trying to "save" Jinx from herself. herself, which would put her in danger. and Jayce.

It's also not the only thing that could drive a wedge between Caitlyn and Vi. Responding to a fan on Twitter who asked if Caitlyn knew that Vi and her gang blew up Jayce's lab at the start of Season 2, Arcane writer Amanda Overton revealed that wasn't the case. Could Caitlyn discover the truth in the show's second season? It's very possible, and we think she'll be upset if she does.

Either way, expect the brewing war between Piltover and Zaun to take center stage in Arcane Season 2 from Jinx's attack on the Piltover Council.

As for the other story threads that Arcane Season 2 will have to deal with, we look forward to seeing Heimerdinger and Ekko continue to work together to help the underground city. Along with the former elected official of the Piltover Council in Season 7 Episode 1, he encountered an injured Ekko on the streets of Zaun in Episode 8. The pair bond over their shared love of technology and, after As Heimerdinger helps Ekko return home, the duo decide to work together and try to ease Zaun's suffering.

We'll also have to see if Viktor loses his Hextech research entirely. He once inadvertently murdered his childhood friend Sky as a result of his Hexcore studies, and it looks like he'll be taking a darker path in Season 2. If we know anything about LoL's lore, there's a good chance we'll get to see Viktor using Hextech to cybernetically enhance his body and become the LoL champion that hardcore LoL fans know.

The Arcane Season 2 Cast

Again, there is no confirmation on this front. But based on the trailer above, we're sure a trio of female characters will return for the sequel to Arcane:

As the video in the tweet above suggests, Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn will be returning for Arcane Season 2. From season 1, instead of being present in the room, we know that they are safe and should return for season 2.

So who else can come back? It will depend on who survives the attack on the Piltover Council Chamber. As we said earlier, we suspect that Mel and/or Cassandra could be victims of Jinx's attack, while any of the other council members could also be killed or injured. However, we would expect Jayce to survive. He has a bigger role to play, in our opinion, and will no doubt want to bring Jinx to justice for his crimes.

Also, Ekko and Heimerdinger should be back for Season 2. The duo weren't part of the Council Chamber Raid, so they should be back and we'll see how their character arcs progress in Season 2. Arcana. Viktor should return as well, although he was in the council room at the time of Jinx's attack.

New faces will likely be introduced in season 2 as well. There were a lot of deaths when Arcane first came out: Silco, Vander, and Marcus to name three, so new supporting characters are needed. We have no idea who might show up, but there are plenty of LoL heroes and villains that Riot, Netflix, and Fortiche Productions can pull from the game franchise universe and use for the animated series.

Arcane season 2: does it deserve another release?

Yes, clearly. The show has a 100% "fresh" rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes among critics, while it also has a 96% "fresh" rating based on audience reviews.

Given the critical acclaim and popularity, Arcane Season 2 was a formality. It may not have been before release, but once Netflix saw how well it did, it was only a matter of time before the company renewed it for a second release.

There are still plenty of stories to tell, character arcs to tie together, and new characters and champions to introduce, so Arcane will never be short of ideas from a plot or character development perspective. We're also big fans of Fortiche's visuals for the anime series, so we'd love to see many more episodes on the TV show.
