Samsung teases roll-and-slide smartphones

With the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 (along with their predecessors), Samsung already has more foldable phones on the market than other companies, but it seems like this is just the beginning, with many more foldable phones on the market. market. the market than other companies, new designs, and all new form factors possibly in the works.

The company has launched a site that highlights several different uses for flexible OLED displays. In addition to the designs we've seen so far, the site also features a 'Slidable Flex' design, which appears to be a flat screen that can be extended by pulling up on the edges, and a 'Rollable Flex' screen that can be extended, unroll from a tube.

Then there's also the "Flex Note", which is less interesting because it's basically the design of the Galaxy Z Fold turned to the side, for a more laptop-like look.

It should be noted that Samsung has not confirmed that it will work on phones with either of these models; these are only possible use cases for its flexible OLED display technology. Still, the fact that they have appeared here suggests that the company might at least consider them.

Then again, the word 'phone' isn't actually used in conjunction with any of these displays, so they could just as easily be used on TVs, laptops, or other devices. So don't expect to see a rollable Samsung phone anytime soon, but don't count on it either.

Analysis: a rolling revolution

Samsung isn't the only company exploring roll-up phones, as we've also seen roll-up phone concepts like TCL, and we've even got our hands on the 2021 roll-up Oppo X.

LG even would have almost put one up for sale (dubbed the LG Rollable), before suddenly abandoning the smartphone market.

So it looks like roll-up phones could be the next step in smartphone design, and from the looks of it, Samsung might have some competition in the space, although it's still not very clear when we can buy such a phone. .
