Biometric security, introduced by Google with Android 10, now comes to Google Pay. Starting with version 2.100 of the application, it is possible to use fingerprint or facial recognition for authentic transactions in the application.

Previously, the only authentication option was to enter the PIN code, but as Android Police reports, now a fingerprint or facial scan makes it possible to get work done quickly and easily, in a more secure way. PINs and passwords can be a fairly traditional way to secure accounts and confirm activity, but they are also predictable and decipherable. Fingerprints and facial recognition are more secure and easier to use.

At the moment, biometric authentication is only available on Android 10 devices such as Google Pixel 4, but Google plans to offer the same option to Google Pay on Android 9. It is not clear at the moment if old users The system will also have access to the function.

At the moment, biometric authentication only applies to sending money from the app. it cannot be used to authenticate NFC payments in stores.

How to enable biometric authentication

As we mentioned, this option is currently only available on Android 10, but you must also be running the correct version of Google Pay. Specifically, you will need Google Pay 2.100 (or later), which you can download from the Play Store or APK Mirror if you don't want to wait.

To activate this feature, simply go to the "Send money" section and activate "Use biometrics instead".

This is a high potential feature that we hope to see soon in other versions of Android.
