Xbox Series X India restocking could happen in August: report

Microsoft has been having trouble restocking the Xbox Series X in India since May. These issues were the reason the console fell behind the pole position it had achieved in console sales in India, which was taken over by Sony after solving its own PS5 restocking issues. And now, after a few months with virtually no restocks for the Xbox Series X, this report from IGN India claims that the console could be restocked as early as August. This follows a previous report stating that there is no chance of replenishment in October. This restock could also see the release of Space Jam: A New Legacy Exclusive Xbox Wireless Controllers.

Xbox and Micorosft's Missed Opportunity

With Xbox Series X taking the top spot on India's best-selling console list, this presented itself as a unique opportunity for Microsoft. It was a position that was previously dominated by Sony and its PS4 console for years. Sony had been left behind as it faced restocking issues for the newly launched PS5 console in India. Xbox had played its cards right by launching the Xbox Series X and S consoles in India on the same date as the global launch. This, combined with near-regular restocks and the attractive proposition that Xbox Games Pass offers, allowed the console to outperform Sony's in India. But the possible reason for the lack of inventory of Xbox Series X and S is that Redington, which is Microsoft's Xbox distributor in India, had an outbreak of Covid-19 last month at its main warehouse in Chennai. Sony, which launched the PS5 in India two and a half months after its global launch, has managed to get back on top. This despite the replenishment issues it faced in the first few months after the PS5 launched in India. But there is still a chance that Mircosoft and Xbox will develop stiff competition for the Sony PS5 if it manages to resolve its restock issues.
