WhatsApp for Android now has a call waiting feature - here's how to use it

We are still waiting for WhatsApp dark mode to arrive on our phones, but another long-awaited feature has finally arrived on Android phones: call pending. As MSPowerUser explains, the new feature is so simple, you'll be surprised it didn't exist yet. Until now, if you were using WhatsApp to make a call and someone else tried to call you, you would hear an 'engagement' tone, but you would not receive any kind of notification to let you know that they were trying to reach you. With the new call waiting feature, you will see that someone else is trying to reach you and will accept the call if you wish. To use the call waiting feature, just make sure your app is updated to version 2.19.352 or later and it will be activated automatically. You can find out which version you are using by long pressing on the app icon and scrolling down. The update may take a few days to roll out worldwide.

What's New?

Another feature provided with this update is the long-awaited ability to prevent strangers from adding you to groups. This option was first discussed in April, but it is only being rolled out for Android users. If you go into the app's settings and select Settings > Account > Privacy > Groups, you should see three options that determine who can add you to a group. Selecting "Person" will prevent anyone from adding you to a group, unless you accept a private message invite, "My Contacts" will only allow people in your address group to add you to groups and "anyone" (you guessed it) allows anyone to add you to groups, including strangers. The goal of this feature is to make it more difficult for spammers to add people to groups and bombard them with unwanted ads or misleading information. WhatsApp also claims to have resolved an issue that was causing unusual battery drain by the app on some Android phones. Of course, the upcoming dark mode will also be a great way to make sure the app consumes less juice, but we don't know when that will happen yet. We will keep you informed as soon as we know more.
