We finally know how much the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold will cost

If 2020 didn't already seem like the year of foldable devices, Lenovo makes it even more likely with the official unveiling of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold at CES 2020. Many of our key details have been shared by our partner site, Tom & # 39; s Hardware. The ThinkPad X1 Fold isn't exactly new, as we already had hands-on experience with a first prototype of the device back in May 2019. The device is the next logical evolution of the Lenovo Yoga Book C930, taking what was a dual-shielded device and removing the space in the middle where the hinge is. This new ThinkPad X1 Fold is actually similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold, but on a larger scale. It has a 4-inch 3:13.3 OLED display that can be folded in half. When closed, the device is designed to resemble a sleek leather-backed laptop. When open, you can sit in a variety of positions. A kickstand on the back of the ThinkPad X1 Fold allows it to be positioned like a Surface Pro tablet, so you can use the full size of the screen with a keyboard for a laptop-like experience. The screen can also be folded to a semi-open position. This allows you to use it with the keyboard docked at the bottom of the screen, giving you more of a mini laptop to work on. In this position, it would have a screen space of approximately 9.6 inches.

It is not foldable for anyone.

Among the new details to come is the price. The ThinkPad X1 Fold will start at a whopping $2,499 (about $1,900, AU$3,600). It is equipped with an unspecified Intel Core processor with Intel Hybrid Technology, which may be Intel's Lakefield stacked design. This is a high starting price for a laptop or tablet, especially one that only comes with 8GB of RAM. It will no doubt start out as a business-class laptop. The leather and carbon fiber finish also suggests this. Given the uncertainties around flexible displays that were only compounded by the Galaxy Fold's problems, the ThinkPad X1 Fold will likely only be in demand by people who have the money to risk a product that may find design flaws. Lenovo has made additional efforts to test the durability of the hinge. But the plastic screen that allows for its flexibility will be more prone to scratches than a standard glass screen. At least we can count on Lenovo to avoid any unsightly hinges, as we've seen achieved on the new Motorola Razr. The ThinkPad X1 Fold will launch in the second quarter of 2020, according to a previous announcement from Lenovo.
