We could finally know this month when the Tesla Cybertruck will arrive

Following questions about the Cybertruck's long-awaited launch date, Musk will join an investor call on January 26 to provide an update on Tesla's overall product roadmap.

Automakers around the world are struggling to deliver new vehicles as they grapple with an ongoing shortage of microchips and an unrelenting COVID-19 pandemic.

Tesla is not immune to these challenges, but it has always been under scrutiny for delivery times and product availability.

The investor call was confirmed via a press release and follows Musk's December 3, 2021 tweet in which he revealed "Product Roadmap Update on Next Earnings Call." It's that "next earnings call."

The update comes as the automaker faces questions about its ability to deliver a new vehicle. Tesla has removed Cybertruck production information from its website and moved the estimated production dates to 2022.

The truck joins two other Tesla products with announcement dates from years ago, but no indication of an actual arrival on the market.

The Tesla Semi Truck and new Roadster were unveiled in 2017, and while test units exist, neither have entered full-scale production. The Semi started limited production in Nevada, but has yet to progress from there.

Tesla expansion continues

Even as it faces questions about vehicle deliveries, Tesla continues to expand its manufacturing presence, both in the United States and abroad.

The automaker expects its new Gigafactory Texas, located near Austin, to be operational for volume production this year, and a new factory in Germany is in the final stages of construction.

Tesla clearly has desirable products, as all the vehicles it currently sells have long waiting lists. Loyal followers of the brand are quick to forgive delays and uncertainties, but for Tesla himself, the timeline puts him in a tricky spot.

If it had been able to bring the Cybertruck to market in 2021, Tesla could have been one of the first to offer an electric pickup truck.

As it stands, the Cybertruck will go up against the Rivian R1T, Ford F-150 Lightning, and GMC Hummer EV.

Depending on the final delivery date, Tesla may also have to deal with the Chevrolet Silverado EV, which is expected to arrive in the spring of 2023.
