Watch Gabe Newell Stun Early Steam Deck Recipients

If you're lucky enough to be part of the first wave of people who preordered the Steam Deck, and you also live near Valve's corporate headquarters in Bellevue, Washington, you may have received your new laptop in hand. Gabe Newell.

If you don't know who Newell is, you're most likely not a gamer, as this former Microsoft employee helped create some really big titles, like Half-Life, Team Fortress, and Portal, and only released Steam in 2003. It's safe to say this man is, uh, big trouble.

That's probably why the video seemed a little awkward with disbelief, but we can't blame the customers Newell delivered their Steam Deck handhelds to instead of their usual courier.

Newell is seen walking to the clients' homes, confirming their names, then greeting them with "Hi, I'm Gabe." Judging by the expression on the faces of most of the recipients, they could probably tell who he was when they opened the door.

Not only that, he was generous enough to put his signature on some. Video captured Newell opening some of the boxes and writing his name on the box with what appears to be a silver pen, saying with a laugh: "I hope people don't get mad that I'm signing them."

He even apologetically stresses "I signed it, I hope it's okay" when a customer opens the box in front of him. Somehow, we doubt they care in the slightest. Just a hunch.

It keeps saying "my email is [email protected]I'd love to hear what you guys think after you've had a chance to play with it." Newell's email is publicly available, and he occasionally responds to emails if he has any questions or concerns about things like Steam, Valve, or the new Steam Deck laptop.

In fact, at the end of the video, he confirms that he receives anywhere from hundreds to several thousand emails a day, and makes sure to read them all, saying, "It keeps you grounded. You know what people really think and what is really important". them".

We've got our own Steam Deck review available to read right now, though unfortunately ours hasn't been hand-delivered by the PC gaming equivalent of Santa Claus. The mood is generally positive, so if you've been tempted to add a Valves gaming laptop, this could be a sign that you need to add one to your cart.
