Watch 18 minutes of Returnal: Ascension's new endless mode

Housemarque has released an extended gameplay preview of Returnal's upcoming free expansion, Ascension, focusing on its new Tower of Sisyphus game mode.

The 18-minute video (watch it now) is a deep dive into the upcoming Endless Mode and features game director Harry Krueger and narrative director Gregory Louden leading us through a run of the ascending challenge.

You're going to make your way through the floors of the primordial tower, entering its base already before making your way through increasingly difficult rooms of opponents.

Housemarque claims it was inspired by its arcade action roots when developing Tower of Sisyphus, with Louden saying in the video that the team "wanted to take the stronger combat elements of Returnal and distill them into a very focused whole packed with intense action." ".

Instead of trying to progress through a set number of levels, like the base game Returnal, you're going to run around the tower to compete for a high score. It's worth keeping a close eye on his score multiplier for this reason.

Climbing the tower will involve defeating opponents in each and every room before heading to the "transporter" at its center, which will transport you to the next area. Any time you spend stalling will reduce your score multiplier, encouraging you to play fast and furious.

However, it's not all about running and gunning. The secret areas will give you ancillary items that can help you in your career, and there is also new narrative content to discover.

Returnal: Ascension will be released on March XNUMXnd. As well as the Tower of Sisyphus, a new cooperative mode will also be introduced in the update, which we have thoroughly revised.
