Vivo X50 series: release date, price, news and rumors
Vivo's high-end smartphones have always focused on their cameras. The flagship X-series, in particular, has always been one of the best cameras when it comes to the camera. The company's current X-series range includes the X30-series and the X27-series in recent years. Its successor will be the Vivo X50, which has already been teased on Weibo. Vivo started teasing the device a few weeks ago. The main focus of the device is the rear camera, which is supposed to be equipped with gimbal-style image stabilization. A few days before launch, the two devices are now listed on JD.com in China, revealing the design and color options. The e-commerce site has listed the Vivo X50 Pro and the Vivo X50, confirming two smartphones in the series.

Vivo X50 Pro launch date and price

Vivo has scheduled an event for June 1 in China where the company is expected to announce the Vivo X50 and X50 Pro. So far, there is no information regarding the launch or availability in India. The latest Vivo X series device we saw in India is the Vivo X21 back in 2018. Since then, the company has brought only a few flagship smartphones to the Nex series.

Design and display

Depending on the leaks, the Vivo X50 series will come in a matte glass finish on the back with a curved glass finish also covering the front of the device. The Vivo X50 Pro comes in two color options: Liquid Oxygen, which is mirror blue, and black. Vanilla X50 appears in three colors, blue, black and shallow. The Vivo X50 Pro would have a 6.5-inch Full HD+ AMOLED curved panel with a 2,376 x 1,080 resolution. The refresh rate here is 90 Hz. The device also houses a small hole-punch cutout on the front, which carries the front-facing camera.

Camera

The spire of the Vivo X50 Pro are its cameras. The X50 Pro would be equipped with a 598MP Sony IMX48 camera, an 8MP telephoto lens, a 13MP periscope lens with optical zoom capabilities, and an 8MP ultra-large camera. Upfront, we might get a 32MP selfie shooter. The main camera, which will debut the Sony IMX598, has a "micro-cloud" mechanism for "gimbal-like" image stabilization. OIS in smartphone cameras typically uses magnets to compensate for shakes of up to 1 degree in four directions. However, Vivo's implementation will include a double ball suspension, a magnetic frame and a protective cover, which could be anti-reflective glass. The total area is about 5 times the average for a normal camera and 3.2x for a periscope camera. Something similar was seen in the Vivo Apex 2020 concept phone.

(Image credit: Live) Another article by a popular Chinese forecaster, Digital Chat Station, also reveals the full sensors of the camera. The camera will carry a Samsung S5K3L6 8MP portrait lens, a Hynix Hi846 8MP ultra-wide camera, an OmniVision OV08A10 13MP telephoto lens. The main lens on the back will have a large aperture of f/1.6, while the telephoto is f/3.4. The cameras will cover the focal range of 16mm to 135mm. Vivo officially confirms this functionality in the teaser video.

Drums

The leaked image also indicates the battery capacity of the Vivo X50 Pro. It will be packed in a 4,315mAh battery with 33W fast charge support. Charging interface is not mentioned, but we can expect a Type C port. Please wait 30 minutes for the device to go from 0 to 50%.

Performance and specs

Also, a Weibo user has leaked more specifications of the device, including the full specifications of the Pro version. Although the specifications are mentioned in Chinese, we can clearly observe the main features that are mentioned in English. Furthermore, the post also mentions the price. Under the hood, the phone is likely to feature a mid-range Snapdragon 765G chipset. Vivo's latest generation X30 was powered by the Exynos 980 chipset. It looks like Vivo is now switching to Qualcomm and they might as well be looking to keep the price in check with the use of a powerful mid-range chip. The chipset also supports 5G dual mode (SA/NSA). The device is supposed to come in two configurations of 8 GB of RAM with either 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage. Furthermore, rumors also suggest that the device may come with NFC, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an AK4377A audio chip.

Vivo X50

Like the Pro version, the vanilla Vivo X50 is also listed on the e-commerce site in China. It is also available for pre-order. The X50 listed on the site also comes with a hole-punch camera and a quad rear camera. Although the image clearly suggests that the device will lack the camera setup like the X50 Pro. We expect most of the internals to be similar to the Pro version, with the exception of the camera department. Pricing Both devices are now available for pre-order in China. Although the company has yet to announce the official price, rumors suggest that the X50 Pro could be around CNY 3.998 (~Rs. 32.000). Although at this moment we do not know if the price is for the 128 GB or 256 GB storage variant.
