Plans and prices

Versature offers a few different plan options depending on how many toll-free lines and minutes you need, and whether you need conferencing services. For phone service only, the Essentials plan offers up to 10 lines and 2500 free minutes for US €23,46 per month (CAD €29,99 per month). If you want audio or video conferencing, you'll need a Professional or Enterprise plan. The Professional plan costs €27.37 per month (€34.99 per month) and includes 15 phone lines and 5,000 free minutes. The Enterprise plan costs €35.20 per month (€44.99 per month) and includes 20 phone lines and 10,000 free minutes. A great advantage of Versature is that VoIP-enabled phones are provided at no charge to your business if you sign up for a 3-year or 5-year contract. Business and corporate users also get a conference room speakerphone in addition to desk phones. All Versature plans include unlimited incoming and local calling minutes, and Professional and Enterprise plans include unlimited calling to the United States. If you go over the free minutes for the month, international calls cost CAD €0.05 per minute (€0.04 USD per minute).

Features

Versature has all the essential features you'd expect from a VoIP service, including useful features like call recording and voicemail transcription. The service also allows you to set up a custom answering service and dial menu so that callers can reach the correct service or extension. Best of all, Versature makes it easy to manage incoming calls. You can activate Simultaneous Ring so that calls are routed to multiple phones at the same time. With the Versature mobile app, calls can also ring on employees' smartphones. The platform also supports call queues, so customers are automatically transferred on hold if your employees are already busy on the phone.

Versature offers a view of performance that can be shared with employees (Image credit: Versature) What we like best about Versature is that the platform makes it easy for you to get insights into your business operations using data from your phone. You can quickly view key performance metrics, such as the number of active calls at any given time, the number of abandoned calls, and the average time customers wait to reach an employee. These metrics can be shared in a read-only format with your employees using the Versature desktop platform. This makes it easy for employees to know when they are outperforming the company's average service performance or falling behind. Business and corporate users also have access to Huddle video conferencing software. This software allows you to host meetings with up to 50 participants with no time limit. It supports video recording, screen sharing, and meeting chat, though it lacks some collaboration features. For example, there is no virtual whiteboard that participants can use to annotate a presentation, and you cannot host meetings to mark up a team presentation.

Interface and in use

Getting started with Versature seemed relatively easy to us. The fact that the company distributes its own phones is a huge advantage, since you don't have to worry about configuring third-party hardware to work with the Versature service. The web interface is quite minimalist. You can view summary statistics about your phone usage on the main dashboard and quickly access your contacts to start a phone call. The menu is easy to navigate, but we wish it was easier to dial a number or look up a contact from the dashboard. Unfortunately, there is no speed dial feature to quickly call frequently dialed numbers. The good news is that you can also receive calls on any smartphone with the Versature mobile app (for iOS and Android). We have preferred the mobile experience to the web experience. The focus is on calls, not analyzing your previous calls, and the app looks much more modern in design. That being said, Versature offers a wide range of integrations for the most popular business software platforms. Therefore, you may not need to use the web interface much. You can add Versature to Salesforce, Zendesk Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Chrome, and more to initiate phone calls from any of these desktop apps.

Support

Versature offers 24/7 phone support in English and French. You can reach the company simply by dialing 6-1-1 on any Versature-compatible phone, which is quite convenient.

Versature offers an online knowledge base full of tutorials (Image credit: Versature) Versature has a very detailed online knowledge base full of tutorials and animations to guide you in using the main features of the service. We also appreciate that you can sign up to be notified by email when Versature's phone network experiences problems.

fullfilment of security requirements

Versature uses encryption to protect your calls and call recordings. In fact, the service is PCI compliant and can automatically redact payment information when transcribing voicemail messages or call recordings for email. Video conferences with Huddle are also encrypted. Plus, you can password-protect meetings to prevent unwanted guests from entering. However, we were disappointed to find that Versature does not offer two-factor authentication to help protect your online account from being compromised.

Competition

Versatility can be a good option for Canadian businesses, but if your business makes a lot of calls to the United States, a service like Ooma Office may serve you better. Ooma Office has no limit on calls to North America and its plans are cheaper than Versature's Professional plan. Ooma Office costs just € 19.95 per month, or € 24.95 per month if you want voicemail transcription and call recording.

Final verdict

Versature is an affordable VoIP provider for small businesses in Canada. The platform provides unlimited local calling and key features like call recording, voicemail transcription, and call queues. We felt the online interface could be improved, but that wasn't a big problem since Versature integrates seamlessly with a variety of enterprise software platforms. If your business primarily makes calls to Canada, this is one of the best VoIP providers for your money.
