Using Microsoft Teams on mobile devices could finally get more useful
Using Microsoft Teams on a mobile device should be much easier with the arrival of a new update to the platform. Microsoft is working on an update to its video conferencing service that should make Teams calls more manageable on iOS and Android devices, while making sure you keep track of the coworkers you value most. The company has announced a new large gallery layout template for Microsoft Teams on mobile that will display up to 10 participants per page on your phone screen.

For larger calls, users will be able to swipe left or right to view different groups of participants, all of whom can interact as usual. The new feature is expected to roll out by the end of July 2021, and iOS and Android users will be able to take advantage of the updates. Users will need a device running Android 9 or later or iOS 13 or later, as well as a device with 4GB or more of memory. Anyone using a device with lower specs than these will see the current Microsoft Teams layout, but won't be able to navigate between contacts on the call. The news comes shortly after Microsoft announced that Teams will soon look more like a regular phone call thanks to the introduction of Music on Hold. It's unclear exactly what music will play, or if users will be able to download or even create their own music on hold. Microsoft says that Music On Hold helps show users that their call is still in progress, which means there shouldn't be an embarrassing hangup or disconnection due to crossed cables.
