Three Of The Best Resident Evil Games Just Got Big Updates

Three of the best Resident Evil games of recent years have just received enhanced versions on current-gen consoles and PCs, making this a great time to revisit the doomed city of Raccoon or the spooky forests of Dulvey, in Louisiana.

Owners of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7 can download and play their updated versions at no additional cost, right now. The news comes directly from the Capcom Showcase in the middle of Summer Game Fest.

You will need to download the PS5 version of each game if you are playing on the Sony console. On Xbox Series X|S, a hotfix will automatically apply the update via Xbox Smart Delivery based on which of the two consoles you own. Also, the patch should be downloaded immediately on Steam if automatic updates are enabled.

Your last escape?

These Resident Evil Enhanced games were announced earlier in the year, and we can't wait to dive into these great titles with a new batch of updated features.

It looks like Capcom has really gone to town with the PS5 and Xbox Series X updates for these excellent Resident Evil games. All three come with the usual bells and whistles, like 4K resolution and higher frame rate limits. Plus, all save files from the base versions of the games will be preserved, so there's no need to start from scratch if you want to enjoy the benefits of the updated versions.

The PS5 versions of these Resident Evil games are particularly compelling, with the addition of the console's 3D audio capabilities. After all, we really want to hear the thunderous footsteps of Mr. X and Lickers breathing down our necks in excruciating detail. That, coupled with the DualSense wireless controller's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, could make for the most immersive Resident Evil experience yet.

Perhaps most telling is the addition of ray tracing, and from the brief demo of the feature shown at Capcom Showcase (Jill's reflection is beautifully rendered on the bare walls of the underground lab), it appears that "he It will open another layer." deep to Raccoon City and Baker House from RE7.

Updates to Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 weren't the only bits of RE info to come from Capcom's storefront, either. Resident Evil Village Gold Edition arrives in October and adds a new DLC campaign, a third-person option to the main game, and improvements to the Mercenaries bonus mode.
