Three Netflix gangster dramas to watch while you wait for Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders season 6 has finally started streaming in the UK, but those abroad will have to wait until June 10 to see the Shelby family's last hurray on Netflix.

Viewers in the US can turn to our BBC iPlayer VPN guide for instant access to new episodes of the show (coming out every Sunday), but if not, there are plenty of alternative gangster dramas on Netflix to make the wait for the show go. The Blinders' return a little easier.

Below, we've picked out three of the best Peaky Blinders alternatives available to watch on the streaming service right now. Each one has a different tone, but all three should help you quench your thirst for crime on the small screen in one way or another.

Top Boy (Four Seasons)

Despite making waves in the UK, Top Boy remains one of Netflix's most underrated series. Set in the fictional Summerhouse estate in London, the series follows partners Dushane (Ashley Walters) and Sully (Kane Robinson), two feared drug dealers who, despite their desire for an honest life, are corrupted by the promise of wealth and greater respect in his city. .

Seasons 1 and 2 of Top Boy aired on UK Channel 4 in 2011 and 2013, respectively, before Netflix rebooted the show for a third season (with a little help from rapper Drake) in 2019, but without the digital title. Season 4 (marketed as Season 2) recently hit the streamer, with the first two seasons also available to watch on Netflix under the title Top Boy: Summerhouse.

In our opinion, Top Boy, especially its most recent seasons, is among the best crime dramas on any streaming service, let alone Netflix. The series is keen to humanize its despicable characters and asks tough questions about class, race, and responsibility. It is a must see for anyone interested in the face of contemporary crime.

Giri/Hajj (una temporada)

Giri/Haji (which translates to "Duty/Shame") is another British-made hidden gem turned Netflix. native city.

Starring Takehiro Hira, Yōsuke Kubozuka, Kelly Macdonald, and Will Sharpe, this eight-episode series hails from the writer of Encounter Joe Barton and the producers of HBO's acclaimed drama Chernobyl, earning countless five-star reviews upon its release in 2019.

Thanks to a bucket of rain and neon lights, Giri/Haji is also one of the most stylish crime thrillers out there, bringing intriguing (yet brutal) Yakuza crime to a familiar London setting. A different offer from Top Boy, therefore, but just as captivating.

Narcos (three seasons)

Pedro Pascual in Narcos

Perhaps the best known of the three gangster series on this list, Narcos traces the rise of Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar in the late XNUMXs. As addictive as the smuggling at the heart of its story, the show combines real-life archival footage with fictional drama to reveal how Escobar became one of the most revered (and feared) criminals in history.

Wagner Moura and Pedro Pascal headline the show's cast as Escobar and DEA agent Javier Peña, respectively, and the pair have a great cat-and-mouse dynamic that creates alarming tension between the drug lords, the authorities, and those who are inside. in Escobar's pocket.

A three-season (and almost as good) spin-off series, Narcos: Mexico, is also available to stream on Netflix, but we highly recommend reading the original show first.
