This motorized play bed is a step too far, even for us

Furniture brand Bauhütte has unveiled a new motorized gaming bed that might just be the most over-the-top gaming peripheral ever created.

The BGB-100FA electric bed is a motorized frame that allows you to change the position of your backrest, legrest and footrest using an integrated remote control. Spotted by Gizmodo (opens in a new tab), it's not much different from standard motorized beds used in hospitals or by the elderly, albeit with noticeably worse back support.

But it's designed to be combined with other Bauhütte products, allowing you to create an entire ecosystem of play furniture around where you lay your head at night. And the day, if Bauhütte succeeds. No need to get up to eat, drink or play video games. You can do it all from the comfort of your BGB-100FA.

Slide the Bed Under Bed Desk BHD-1200BD (Opens in a new tab), specially designed to be combined with a mattress and bed frame, and you'll be able to wake up from sleep right into an online death match. When you're done, simply pull out the remote, lower the bed to the sleeping position, and drift off into comforting memories of your killing sprees.

There are also plenty of other accessories to add to your gaming setup. Slide the BHT-830 Coat Rack (Opens in a new tab) across your bed and you won't even have to get up to get dressed. Place the Energy Wagon BHS-430 (opens in a new tab), which comes with room for a full case of soda cans, near your pillow so you can grab those must-have Mountain Dews. Don't forget the BHW-799 device wall (opens in a new tab), unless you want to get out of bed every time you need to put on a pair of headphones, like an idiot.

Bauhütte calls it "a dream layout that can incorporate all of a gamer's basic life, centered around an electric gaming bed."

If you like the look of the bed frame, you'll have to pay extra to get the BMT-100S gaming mattress fitted. The bed alone will set you back $480, around $368 / AU$650, or it comes with the matching mattress for $670, around $515 / AU$900.

When it comes to bed frames and mattresses, it's not drastically expensive. But we're not sure it will give you the ergonomic support you need. The mattress looks pretty thin and flimsy, the bed itself is covered with wire mesh instead of slats, and the backrest can only recline to a maximum of 60 degrees, which isn't great considering the lack of lumbar support.

If you're short on space, getting a bed to match a desk isn't such a bad idea. If you have trouble moving, the motorized backrest is also useful. But you don't have to buy a self-proclaimed play bed to get these features. It's probably worth shopping around before getting carried away with the aesthetics of the player.
