This Intel Lakefield benchmark should worry Microsoft and Samsung
A recent reference to Intel's Lakefield system-on-chip processor could cause problems for future Microsoft and Samsung products. The processor, which is marketed as a very low-power hybrid CPU for mobile devices and ultrabooks, promises to hit over 3.0 GHz, but according to a Notebookcheck report, the Lakefield chip they tested is well below expectations.

Lakefield benchmark shows poor performance for new Intel SoC

According to the new benchmark, Intel Lakefield is nowhere near reaching its announced 3.0 GHz. Also, Intel has promised that Lakefield will have 12% better single-core performance compared to Intel Amber Lake processor, but this new benchmark Benchmarking shows that Intel's new SoC falls far short of this expectation, finishing a staggering 67% slower than Amber Lac. Samsung should release a version of its Galaxy Book S with the Intel Lakefield processor, and the Microsoft Surface Neo should also use the processor. So while the new Intel processor should have improved battery life, if this new benchmark holds up, it's unlikely to make up for its poor performance. This is something neither Samsung nor Microsoft will likely appreciate, although we can hear Qualcomm smiling from all sides here.
