There's a new Microsoft Teams app for Windows, but does it solve all your problems?

Ahead of its Enterprise Connect event (opens in a new tab), a new Microsoft Teams app for Windows is now available for public preview, and the tech giant claims it's twice as fast and half the memory.

In addition, the video conferencing software promised intuitive visual review (so you don't spend all day staring at the virtual equivalent of a dentist's waiting room) that will make notifications, messages, and channels available with fewer clicks.

The release follows Microsoft's recent announcement that it will bring artificial intelligence and GPT-4 to Microsoft 365 at some point in the future in the form of Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Smarter, better, faster, stronger?

Microsoft brought Teams into the XNUMXst century by offering a feature that Google Workspace has had for quite some time: the ability to switch accounts without signing in or out.

However, it fared better than Google. Instead of just remembering all your accounts, Teams will give you notifications for each one, "no matter which one you're currently using."

While Microsoft doesn't ultimately have anything new to say about Copilot, it did describe the new app as a "base" for this feature, mentioning that the preview will roll out to Mac users, as well as commercial organizations that have explicitly opted-in. new app. the line.

Alright, "New Equipment" will be generally available later this year. Who's to say if it'll taste worse and just be there to rekindle the nostalgia for the old?
