There aren't enough game controllers for people with disabilities, but we can help

Although video game companies like Microsoft have made strides in developing accessible game controllers like the Xbox Adaptive Controller, there's a lot of work to be done to ensure they're available to everyone who enjoys them. necessary.

Enter The Controller Project, a UK-based organization dedicated to 3D printing controller mods for gamers with physical disabilities. In March, founder Caleb Kraft put out a call on Twitter for volunteers with a 3D printer to print all mods on the site and ship them to players in need.

When you sign up to volunteer, you'll get a request from someone asking for a specific mod on the site who can't afford to print it themselves. And if you can't print yourself, you can always donate money or old drivers to the mod.

Analysis: Game accessibility is an ongoing issue

Organizations such as The Controller Project and The AbleGamers Charity demonstrate the need for more avenues of accessibility in the gaming industry.

While Microsoft and Logitech have made commendable progress with accessible game controllers and game developers have worked to include accessibility options in their games, many other companies have done little or nothing.

People with disabilities deserve to be able to play their favorite games, and I hope that with projects like The Controller Project volunteer program, Microsoft initiatives (opens in a new tab), and other options available, we'll see more innovation and investment in this space
