Who are the new characters in season 2 of The Witcher?

Spoilers for The Witcher book series and season 1 of the Netflix adaptation follow below. Proceed at your own risk. As mentioned, the only character on this list without a history in The Witcher universe is Ba'lian. He didn't appear in Andrzej Sapowski's source material, nor in video games based on the author's novels, so it will be interesting to see what role he plays in the debates. However, we can provide details on the other six characters for those unfamiliar with them. Nenneke is a priestess of Melitele and head of the Temple of Melitele in Ellander. In the books, she Nenneke healed Geralt's injuries, when he was younger, after a near-fatal encounter with a monster known as the Striga. Nenneke also has ties to Yennefer, the couple who met at the temple before Geralt's initial arrival. Philippa Eilhart is an adviser to King Vizimir II, who rules over Redania. She is also the leader of the witches and is considered one of the few magic users who can easily transform into an animal or a bird. Meanwhile, Dijkstra is the head of Redania's secret service division and regularly performs espionage duties for King Vizimir II. Fenn and Codringher are a famous detective duo based on Dorian. In the books, the couple is male, but Fenn's gender was changed for the Netflix adaptation. Finally, Rience was a wizard who, in the novels, was instructed to track down Ciri after the Cintra massacre by her master Vilgefortz. The latter was killed in the Season 1 finale, so it's possible that Rience appears to be completing the task her master asked him to do and potentially seeking revenge against those who killed Vilgefortz. It's unclear if Netflix will stick to the events of Sapowski's books for season 2, or take creative liberties with the source material. If the latter is the latter, the newly announced characters may appear at different points in the story of The Witcher novels, or meet characters they haven't met in the books. Hopefully, it won't be long before we find out for sure. The Witcher season 2 is on track for a 2021 release, but that release date may change if the Covid-19 pandemic causes issues during the current filming schedule.
