Britain's 5G network is falling short of its promise due to strong growth in much of the country, new research shows. Next-generation networks are only delivered to 5G-enabled phones only a fifth (20%) of the time, according to new findings from benchmarking company Global Wireless Solutions (GWS). This despite the rollout of 5G to over a third (37%) of the UK, with significant performance gaps in some areas.

The benefits of 5G are becoming apparent to UK users, with average speeds nearly five times higher in areas where 5G is available. GWS has found that the strength and reliability of 5G connections can differ for users living in the same city or town due to how different operators have deployed their networks. Overall, GWS tests found that the 5G signal is, on average, available 40% of the time in UK cities and 16% in towns; yet at the same time, the network is not performing tasks on 5G only 23% of the time. in cities. and only 8% in the cities. O2 has proven to be the UK's most trusted network, ranking among the best on 18 of 37 sites tested to win the award for the third year running.
