Typically, the new phones in Samsung's Galaxy S Ultra lineup are some of the most exciting phones of the year, but that may not be the case with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra as a leak suggests it may have trouble differentiating between it. and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
That's the impression we get from the unofficial renderings shared by @OnLeaks, a leaker with an excellent track record, on behalf of SmartPrix (opens in a new tab). They show off a phone that looks almost identical to the S22 Ultra, as you can see below.
There are, however, some slight changes. Although this leak suggests that the phone will once again feature a 6,8-inch display, the dimensions will look slightly different, coming in at 163,4 x 78,1 x 8,8mm, compared to 163,3 x 77,9mm. x 8,9mm on the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
The display will also apparently get some improvements, like being brighter and offering better color accuracy and HDR performance.
Other changes listed for the Galaxy S23 Ultra include less curved sides and the two smaller camera sensors aligned on the rear, whereas on the S22 Ultra they protruded a bit.
We'd take this leak with a grain of salt for now, but given the source, it's most likely accurate, and if so, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra might hardly be a change, at least visually.
Analysis: Updates under the hood
The good news is that while the design doesn't change much, the specs do. There aren't many specs included in this latest leak, but a previous leak suggested that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra could have a 200MP camera, versus the S108 Ultra's 22MP.
Of course, it will also have a new and more powerful chipset, probably the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, so at least it will improve performance.
Still, if that's the gist of the upgrades, the Galaxy S23 Ultra probably isn't a super exciting phone overall, though it's bound to be one of Samsung's best phones.
