Though now over three years old, the Nintendo Switch still doesn't have a new Metroid game, the franchise is currently only represented by the Nintendo Switch Online versions of the classic Metroid and Super Metroid. Could three more classic Metroid games join their ranks? That's the word of persistent rumors suggesting that Metroid Prime Trilogy is coming to Nintendo Switch. First released on the Nintendo GameCube, followed by a motion-control remastered Wii trilogy bundle, VG247 discovered a Swedish listing for a Switch port on the trilogy, with a tentative release date of June 19. The listing has since been removed.

This is just the latest in a series of retail leaks pointing to a port on the Wii version of the Switch trilogy, and given Nintendo's recent moves, it looks more legit than ever. This month also saw Nintendo surprise release a new Paper Mario game, revealing it just months before its release date. With E3 2020 cancelled, and with the Nintendo Direct rumored, Nintendo may now be planning to make more surprise game release announcements, as Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch could be one of them. . With the long-awaited and troubled Metroid Prime 4 not looking like it's close to ending, the release of the Metroid Prime trilogy on Switch would help calm fans who are still hoping for an actual sequel.
