Upcoming Doom TV series will focus on game creation at id Software

If there's one thing we've learned from shows and movies like Halt and Catch Fire, Silicon Valley, and The Social Network, it's that the inner workings of tech and gaming companies make for an incredibly compelling sight. Now we might have a new TV show to look forward to. USA Network commissioned a pilot for a series based on Masters of Doom, David Kushner's 2003 nonfiction book that chronicles the founding of id Software. creating his beloved Doom franchise, as indicated by Deadline.

The series will focus on the company's founders, programmer John Carmack and designer John Romero, two best friends who would become bitter rivals after making a splash developing the id software follow-up to Doom II, Quake. Tom Bissell was brought in for pilot writing assignments, an excellent choice considering his previous work on the movie-themed book Extra Lives: Why Video Games Matter and as lead writer for Gears of War 4, with the requisite knowledge that you probably would have saved your time at id Software as a game tester. Masters of Doom will be produced by James Ramona Films and Dave Franco, who directed the award-winning film The Disaster Artist, following a book co-authored by Bissell. Masters of Doom "if picked up for serial order" would be the first installment in a planned anthology, "in which "each subsequent season would build on defining moments in video game history," as stated by the variety.
