The new Tomb Raider movie finally got a script and a working title

Lara Croft is set to return to the big screen in a new Tomb Raider movie, and now we know what it's probably going to be called, with a working title of ``Tomb Raider: Obsidian''. The film will be directed and written by Misha Green (writer about the very good country Lovecraft). It will be her first directing role in a feature film, taking on the project from British director Ben Wheatley. "Another long drive to production," Green tweeted. "The title is not even approved. But the first draft is finished!!!"

Another long road to production. The title is not even approved. 🤫😜 But the first draft is finished!!! 🎉🥳🎊 #TombRaider pic.twitter.com/wrKVUubM6IM May 14, 2021 More Other than that, there isn't much else to say about the new Tomb Raider movie. Looking at the cast list on IMDB, it looks like Alicia Vikander and Kristin Scott Thomas are reprising their respective roles as Lara Croft and Ana Miller, which they had in the 2016 reboot. But that's all we know. the first draft is finished, it seems that we are still a long way from learning much more.

Re-assaulted

Despite the poor reviews, the 2018 Tomb Raider reboot did quite well at the box office, grossing around €275 million on an estimated budget of €95 million. This saw Vikander take on the lead role once held by Angelina Jolie, in a story that felt more like survival-focused reboot games than the original 32-bit games. While he has yet to lead a major blockbuster behind the camera, Green is a good fit to move the franchise forward, with an eye for not only adventure but the supernatural as Lovecraft Country shows. It will also be the first time a Tomb Raider movie has been directed by a woman, which is as late as it gets. Interestingly, it now looks like the release of the Tomb Raider movie sequel will follow that of another closely related film adaptation, the long-gestating Uncharted movie ahead of its February 2022 release date. it was a play on the Indiana Jones movies, which are also getting a sequel slated to hit theaters in 2022. Not to mention Netflix's Tomb Raider TV show, currently in development. The past few years should be busy for Hollywood's favorite adventurous archaeologists, and video games at that point.
