Smash Bros Ultimate's new fighter is another Fire Emblem character, for some reason
Super Smash Bros Ultimate added a new character to the fight: Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Fire Emblem, you say? I don't know somewhere? The strategy/military tactics/serial video game series is probably already overrepresented in Smash Bros Ultimate, along with Marth, Roy, Ike, Robin, Lucina, and Corrin. But apparently this was not enough. Only three houses came out in 2019, making him a relatively new character to appear in the game. Some fans (us included) are a bit irritated that they're not getting something more players can get their hands on. 39; identifies, but Fire Emblem fans will no doubt dig it. The interesting thing about Byleth is that you can choose a male or female version of the character; In Sakurai's video we are told that they have slightly different names in Japanese, but "in English they share the same name." We knew the latest fighter would be released "by February 2020," according to the Smash Bros. website, but now we know Byleth is coming on January 28, which is earlier than expected. The live stream was hosted by Masahiro Sakurai, game director for the Super Smash Bros. series, which he created in 1999. The fighter joins the ranks of the other characters in the Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC, which have so far included Piranha Plant, Joker from Persona 5, Banjo-Kazooie, Hero from the Dragon Quest franchise, and Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury. Players will be able to download the fighter digitally individually or as part of the Fighters Pass, which gives them access to all DLC characters as they land in the game.

Status Quo

(Image credit: Nintendo) The trailer is a lot of fun, Byleth appears for the first time with a sword weapon, and we made fun of him if there weren't "too many swordsmen" yet. (There are many.) You'll also have the option to use other weapons like an axe, spear, or bow to mix things up on the battlefield. While this wraps up the first five characters in Smash Bros Ultimate's Battle Pass, we know there will be many more on the way, with fan fervor surrounding each additional character keeping the game a regular sell-out since launch. - and there are many more Nintendo can take advantage of its own franchises or third parties. Will we ever see Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, or the brutal Doomguy marine? Given the bland choice that Byleth represents, we certainly hope so.
