New PS5 Pro rumors point to release within the next two years

The PS5 Pro is nothing more than a rumor at this point, but a recent report suggested that it could arrive in late XNUMX or early to mid XNUMX.

The report comes from the RedGamingTech YouTube channel (via GamesRadar). In the report, the RedGamingTech channel communicator, Paul Eccleston, asserts that, according to information from the sources, a PS5 Pro is being developed that presents "certain significant improvements over the PS5 Pro system."

In terms of release, RedGamingTech claims that the PS5 Pro "maybe aiming for the end of 3 or around 4." Although Sony has yet to confirm any plans for mid-gen upgrades, a 3-4 year timeline would be a pretty clean mirror of the 4-year gap between the base PSXNUMX and the more powerful PSXNUMX Pro.

The report also touches on the potential performance of a new iteration of the PS5, aiming for twice the speed in standard modes compared to the "vanilla PS 5" and two.XNUMX times the speed with ray tracing active. The report also suggests that the new iteration would be developed to offer an even better experience with PS VR. While PS VR XNUMX has been confirmed, its release date has not.

As Eccleston himself points out, not surprisingly, rumors "can be wrong" and, in the technology and games industry, projects and plans can be canceled or moved "with worrying regularity". As such, we advise taking these reports with a grain of salt until such time as Sony confirms any plans for a new iteration of the base PS5.

Analysis: What is the PS5 Pro?

Well, for now, the PS5 Pro is just speculation and rumor and only as Sony hasn't officially announced any successor to the PS5. However, an update to the mid-gen console wouldn't be the biggest surprise, as the PS4 Pro was a fairly successful launch for Sony in 4, three years after the release of the base PSXNUMX.

This isn't the first report we've seen of the unconfirmed console, either. It wasn't until earlier this month that a compilation of international shipping records spotted by TweakTown sparked speculation about the development of the PS5 Pro. The records showed that Sony Interactive Entertainment (the arm of Sony that runs PS) has shipped thousands of boxes of development kits to the US in recent months. Most of the shipments came from Japan and Korea, while other listings showed that Sony exported a shipment labeled "game console for video game consoles." (prototype)” from the UK to the US last November.

It's the word 'prototype' that has caused a flurry of enthusiasm, with some speculating that the enigmatic item could be a new iteration on the PS5, but it all sounds a bit optimistic and there's little to suggest for sure that these shipments actually contained complete prototype models. We could also be looking for something to do with PSVR 5 or even the original PSXNUMX.

Still, while it seems like there's a good chance Sony will release a PS5 Slim or PS5 Pro at some point, its resolution to release two mid-gen console upgrades for the PS4 is proving triumphant, the current shortage makes it unlikely that Sony will rush to do anything. . As things stand, it's best to wait for official confirmation from Sony before getting too excited.
