The new Ghostbusters game has the perfect 4v1 multiplayer setup

The new Ghostbusters game seeks to capture a central part of the movies: that you are part of a team. Built as a 4v1 multiplayer grudge match, you and your friends can team up as wraith hunters and take down poltergeists lurking in N. York real estate. To add tension to the mix, the specters you face are controlled by another human player, and have a set of powers and abilities to give them the upper hand.

In Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed you'll play a new set of characters and not the familiar faces we've met through the movies, but that's not to say that everything is new: the slimy green specter Slimer makes his appearance.

You can see the neon green spectrum in the trailer below:

As a Ghostbuster, you're going to have access to all of the gear that was made known in the movies. You'll use the PKE meter to grab the opposing specter, destroy them with proton bundles, and trap them in the iconic specter traps.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is made by Illfonic, the studio behind Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds. Two titles that followed the exact same 4v1 format, pitting puny humans against a single overpowered opponent. It's a solid formula, although it has had mixed results for Illfonic. Predator seemed like the perfect property for the perfect asymmetric multiplayer mode, but it didn't deliver on the promise of the movies.

It won't be long before we fill our hands with ectoplasm in the game, Spirits Unleashed will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X, PS4, PC and Xbox One in 'Q4 2022' (probably between October and December) .

Review: Ghostbusters in video game consoles

The Ghostbusters brand has a varied relationship with video games. While there are many, only a few are truly worth playing.

The most essential came in the form of XNUMX's Ghostbusters: The Video Game. This title managed to be the last project to add each and every one of the original team members. It was also claimed that Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis had a hand in the story, leading some to consider it to be some kind of unofficial Ghostbusters three.

While the first shots of the movies led to underwhelming gameplay, this new twist on the perfect Ghostbusters-focused multiplayer is a solid alternative. For starters, the movies focus on a team of 4, a natural match for the perfect co-op multiplayer mode. Then there's the fact that in every single action sequence in the movies, the Ghostbusters only succeeded through teamwork. One team member would scan the environment, direct his colleagues to the target, and then, when the proton bundles were out, everyone would work together to pull the specter into the trap. All of this fits naturally in a cooperative game.

While Predator may have been a disappointment, we're hoping Ghostbusters turns out to be a winner.
