Marvel's Avengers game finally looks like something we want to play
When Marvel's Avengers debuted at E3 2019, it wasn't quite the dunk we'd hoped for. We knew that Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics had been hard at work on an Avengers game for a number of years, and after Spider-Man on PS4 resonated so strongly, it was strange that this first outing for a game based on the biggest team in Marvel superheroes left us a little cold. It looked eerily like a Marvel simulator game, which wasn't the ideal first impression. Now, however, after today's War Table presentation, Crystal Dynamics has clarified items that have only been hinted at in the past. It shows previously unseen parts of the game and reveals that the main villain is the giant-headed MODOK, a comic book villain who has yet to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We also got to see the war zone co-op missions in action, where you can assemble your own team of Avengers with friends or the AI, and combine powers to make moves called Team Finishers. We've also taken a closer look at the dense customization and progression options, where you can mix your own selection of air, melee, ranged, and ``ground'' attacks to create an Avenger to your liking. It's an intriguing prospect, assuming there's a real difference between the different permutations. "You customize your Avengers however you want," says lead designer Philippe Therien. "My Hulk, for example, is more of a trash character. I love that he throws these cosmetically infused rocks into battle. I use him as trash, like a support guy on top of a hill while my friends are fighting in the middle. "So if I set up my Hulk like this, and I play solo and he's on my team, he's still the Hulk and it's cool. But if I play with people, and we play together and I want to play melee and a tank, great: I'm going to change my strategy and do something different. This flexibility is impressive, and is fully represented in War Zone. "Crystal Dynamics introduces Marvel Avengers as '6 games in 1' because each hero plays so differently and has their own skill tree. You'll also find plenty of skins to unlock for each hero, many of which are available in the game, and some can only be acquired as paid cosmetics. These skins are derived from past Marvel comic appearances. The combination of all this equals a complete and satisfying experience. The promise of a free next-gen upgrade is a huge incentive to step in when it launches in September on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. This means that Marvel's Avengers' roadmap of free updates, which will include new locations, missions, and playable superheroes post-launch, won't be interrupted if you decide to purchase one. PS5 or Xbox Series console X.

solo vs coop

During the War Table stream, Square Enix revealed a new mission specific to Thor called ``Once an Avenger,'' which gives us a glimpse into the narrative of the solo game. Instead of playing it all together, you engage in two types of missions: story-only based hero missions and Warzone with three other players or AI partners. You access all of these missions from a war table in your base, and your incentive to play or replay a war zone mission could be resources, scarce material for your superheroes, or faction progression with the various groups that give you missions. Warzone missions will include exploration-friendly areas and enemy-filled interiors for variety, moving away from the main campaign after unlocking the different playable heroes (confirmed up to Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Captain America, though the latter seems to die in the introductory mission. The suggestion, then, is that this game will be full of things to do. We asked Scot Amos' studio manager at Crystal Dynamics how long it would take to touch everything once in Marvel's Avengers."We're not specifically talking about the overall duration of anything, because the numbers get a little silly when you start talking about maxing out each hero's skill tree, going for the highest level of power, collecting all the comics, unlocking all the outfits... and that's even before you play all the hero missions and warzone missions... and then play the warzones with your AI mates or with your friends online or both ? And don't forget... new heroes, new villains, new regions, new stories all arrive post-launch at no extra cost, so the numbers keep growing dramatically over time... so even for "doing it all once" ...will be a good time.” The level of attention paid to cheesy Marvel touches is high here. You'll see supporting characters you recognize (hello, Nick Fury!), familiar locations, and detailed animations about hero attacks. shows us a shot of Thor in which the player can manually select the targets for Mjolnir to hit, before releasing the hammer to hit them all in succession, which might remind some players of the Splinter Cell: Conviction Mark and Execute feature. We really can't shake the feeling that Marvel's Avengers is like a decent action game, with plenty of similar-looking robot enemies to defeat, but the collective appeal of different ways to play and tweak your heroes is very high.

And the story?

La Sra. Marvel, también conocida como Kamala Khan, es una de las nuevas creaciones más exitosas de Marvel en la última década.

Ms. Marvel, also known as Kamala Khan, is one of Marvel's most successful new creations in the last decade. (Image credit: Square Enix / Marvel) We asked the developers what was the thinking behind the hero roster for this game: "When we started exploring the idea of the original story, we had some inspirations, or at least I Yeah". says creative director Shaun Escayg. "We knew we wanted to take another on superheroes. What if superheroes weren't amazing super beings we admire on a pedestal, but what if they were considered dangerous and powerful beings who wreak havoc on Earth?" was the starting point. The Marvels series from Phil Sheldon's point of view, was kind of the inspiration behind the main concept and themes that we wanted to pursue. "Sheldon, in the comic, is a photographer documenting the changing times of the Marvel universe. The Avengers game begins with A-Day, a disaster that marks the end of the Avengers as a group. A hero (Kamala Khan, aka the Ms. Marvel) and a villain (George Tarleton aka MODOK) are created as a result of the day's events, each infected with the consequences in different ways.As Kamala becomes a hero with unusual powers, Tarleton is disfigured, and everyone has their own perspectives on the Avengers and how the heroes wield their power. "He was the perfect villain," says Escayg of choosing to bring MODOK into the game. "What we liked about MODOK was intelligence, in the way that he could even split the Avengers. He pitted Bruce against Tony just by presenting this "you're out of control" angle. Bruce, who has always fought with the Hulk, feels this way historically through the comics. So if you push those buttons, you're going to have this internal conflict." The passion for the Avengers universe is certainly there. The question is whether all that Crystal Dynamics and its collaborators have on the table: a single-player campaign, various co-op missions and what seems like a full suite of customization options, it will really come together with the super game Conquering Hero it should be.Marvel's Avengers will launch on September 4th on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Stadia, and later on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
