LG GX soundbar is an expensive audio accessory for an expensive OLED TV

LG has announced a new member of its 2020 soundbar range, the new LG GX Soundbar, which is designed to pair with its high-end LG GX OLED TV. At €1,299 (£999, around AU$1,300), it's certainly not the cheapest audio ticket yet, but since the companion OLED starts at around €2,000, it's aimed at the design-forward, spendthrift crowd. That said, LG has designed every detail of the soundbar with OLED in mind: it can stand on a table or be mounted on the wall, and it has an HDMI port that can carry Dolby Vision to the TV. The bar is Hi-Res Audio certified, offers 24-bit/96kHz lossless playback, and comes with LG's AI Sound Pro technology that can intelligently recognize what type of content is being played and optimize playback. LG says the GX soundbar will support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, which might not be great on the bar itself since it's just a 3.1 system, but it also says the bar can be connected to your SPK8 wireless rear speaker kit for true surround sound.

Decoration or update needed? Maybe both

Although the LG GX's soundbar is obviously a bit...fancy in design and price, it could be a practical thing when you consider that the LG GX OLED TV uses 20-watt discharge speakers. Having a 3.1-channel soundbar pointing directly at you while you're watching TV isn't a bad idea, although you could obviously spend a lot less to get something this powerful. If you have money in a hole in your pocket, LG says the GX soundbar will go on sale on July 20.
