The Suicide Squad seems to be one of the hottest movies of the summer. James Gunn's version R in DC's Villainous Group looks like it's going to be a good time, judging by the trailer that landed online back in March, and we already know there's going to be plenty of character deaths upon its arrival. theaters around the world. Now Gunn has revealed that each member of the film's cast has been told whether his character will live or die before the film begins shooting, and it seems it's important that his stars know before they sign on. Taking to Twitter to follow up on one of Gunn's earlier tweets, an intrigued fan asked the director if he had decided not to talk to his cast about his character's chances of survival. Gunn, however, explained that Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, and John Cena had all been told who would live to fight another day and who would not. Analysis: why the Suicide Squad cast needed to know who would die
Some fans may wonder if Gunn's approach was the right one. After all, he could have improved the visualization if some cast members didn't know who would live or die. That way, his reactions to another villain's possible death would be more authentic when filmed. However, it makes sense that Gunn would inform everyone whether or not his on-screen counterpart would survive. There's no point in keeping the actors in the dark about how this might turn out for his character. Not disclosing this information could have resulted in tense conversations down the road, especially if some cast members were unhappy with a movie signing, only appearing in a few scenes and then dying immediately afterward. Knowing if and when his characters would die he too could have prevented one of The Suicide Squad stars from finding out how they were going to meet. As Gunn revealed in another tweet, none of the film's stars were allowed to make any claims about how they were killed. Again, this makes sense. Gunn will have already written the script for The Suicide Squad before casting his actors. Changing the way characters are killed, based on their stars' recommendations, could only have caused problems before or during filming if the film's plot had been changed to meet all the demands. So, it seems that the great cast of The Suicide Squad were very happy to learn if their characters would live or die in Gunn's new movie.
