Samsung Galaxy S10 / S10 Plus

The best smartphones in the world.

Release date: March 2019 | Weight: 157g / 175g | Dimensions: 149,9 x 70,4 x 7,8mm / 157,6 x 74,1 x 7,8mm | Operating system: Android 9 | Screen size: 6.1 inches / 6.4 inches | Resolution: 1440 x 3040 | Processor: Snapdragon 855 / Exynos 9820 | RAM: 8/12GB | Storage: 128/512 GB / 1TB | Battery: 3,400mAh / 4,100mAh | Rear camera: 12MP + 12MP + 16MP | Front camera: 10MP / 10MP + 8MP Best screen around Great cameras Not cheap Design offers little grip The Samsung Galaxy S10 is the best smartphone currently available. This covers both the S10 and the larger Galaxy S10 Plus, as there's very little difference between the two phones apart from size. They take the best of what's on the smartphone market and put it together in an attractive package that we loved to try. The Super AMOLED screen has been measured as the best, with super colours, wide dynamic range and essentially the best viewing experience you can have on a mobile phone. Bigger batteries, more camera shooting modes, a sharper screen make this a notable upgrade from the Galaxy S9 (which previously ranked first). If we had to pick one, we'd go with the Galaxy S10 Plus's larger screen and two selfies, but both phones deserve their best crown. Read more: Galaxy S10 review | Galaxy S10 Plus review

QLED TV Samsung Q90R (2019)

Bright, beautiful and capable of supporting OLED

65-inch: Samsung QN65Q90R | 75-inch: Samsung QN75Q90R

Excellent picture quality Wider viewing angles No Dolby vision That's it Last year, the Samsung Q9FN was the TV to beat. It has won a lot of praise for its functionality and image quality, not to mention its excellent upgraded smart platform that comes with Bixby and Samsung SmartThings support. It wasn't perfect, though, and there were legitimate complaints about viewing angles and an overly aggressive local dimming system that squashed detail just above black. Samsung clearly took these criticisms to heart and directly addressed them in the Q90. The new model has a visibly higher viewing angle that holds up against an OLED TV, and local dimming provides deep blacks without losing shadow detail. To this end, the new Ultra Black Elite filter is nothing short of a revelation, rejecting ambient light in a way that defeats belief. The Q90 is capable of delivering images that can compete directly with an OLED, with natural colors, bright highlights, deep blacks, and well-defined shadows. It can also outperform any OLED in HDR, with images often impressive in detail and dynamic range. In fact, our only real criticism would be that unlike some competitors, the Q90 doesn't support Dolby Vision. In every other way though, the Samsung Q90 is an absolutely stellar TV that takes QLED to another level. Read the full review: Samsung Q90R QLED TV

Handheld and home console Owner-only exclusives Not as powerful as other home consoles Boneless online service It's a curious time in the console cycle, with the PS4 and Xbox One nearing the end of their reign, and their replacements expected Next-gen consoles dominate the show when they launch in late 2020. But this transition period means that the hybrid Nintendo Switch handheld console, and its portable sibling, the Switch Lite, are really the best options for a new console right now. Unless the PS5 and Xbox Series X finally come out. They offer a distinctly different experience from Sony and Microsoft's mainline consoles, at a lower price point and extremely useful portable gaming. Add to that the host of exclusive Nintendo exclusives: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, etc. - and third-party indie games that fit perfectly on the compact console screen, and you have plenty of time to spare your hands. iPad Pro 11 (2018)

The best tablet you can buy now

Weight: 468g | Dimensions: 247.6 x 178.5 x 5.9mm | Operating system: iOS 12 | Screen size: 11 inches | Resolution: 2388 x 1668 pixels | CPU: A12X Bionic | Storage: 64GB / 256GB / 512GB / 1TB | MicroSD slot: No | Battery: 7.812 mAh | Rear camera: 12MP | Front camera: 7MP Pen finally snaps on Insane power for a tablet Software limits laptop experience Extra expensive pen and keyboard If silver really isn't an object, there's never been a tablet as thin as the 11-inch iPad Pro slate 2018. It's a great choice of two: in one when paired with its folio keyboard case, and a great big touchpad when traveling solo. Many of the grunts from previous iPad Pro tablets have been resolved. Apple Pencil finally attaches magnetically to the tablet, the speakers now have the power to match larger real estate, and the screen-to-body ratio has been improved to the point where it's hard to see where Apple can go from here. Is this a real laptop replacement? This is always a tough question, and one to consider before you buy: iOS 12 software feels constrained when it comes to multitasking and portable multitasking. Another strictly mobile challenge: there's no headphone jack. If you want the standard 3.5mm jack on a computer-like device, you're going to turn to a real computer. Considering these points, it is a real winner. Don't expect a real replacement for your MacBook Pro and you'll be glad to go. Read the full review: iPad Pro 11

Tizen is an increasingly powerful portable operating system, and the rotating bezel used here for navigation works like a charm. Valve index

The next generation of VR headsets we've been waiting for

Availability: now available | Price: €999 / £919 / around AU$1,425 Wider field of view Knuckle controllers Requires a high-end GPU Always expensive There's no doubt that the Valve Index is the next-gen VR headset people are clamoring for – it's got a display ultra-sharp that works quite well even with older GPUs, a wider field of view, a higher refresh rate, and the shaft of Valve's controllers, which can follow the movement of each finger. At home, there's no doubt that the Valve Index will be our default VR headset going forward. This is a major update to the HTC Vive and it runs a lot easier than the Vive Pro, a powerful VR headset that really struggles to deliver on the promise of the best VR. wide range of rooms. And yet, while the Valve Index is the best VR headset ever, it brought some of the most annoying aspects of VR along on the road. Setup can be tedious, updates can cause connection issues, and you might encounter a new bug the next time you use it. It's not cheap hardware either, but if you can see past these issues, it's still the best VR headset right now. Read the full review: valve index

Sony WH-1000XM3

The world's best noise-canceling headphones, two years in a row

Fantastic sound quality 30 hour autonomy Small configurations of 1000XM2 Poor call quality Sony has started again. Although this is a new model for 2018, the Sony WH-1000XM3 have been the best noise canceling headphones in the world for two years in a row. How is it possible? In fact, even if there's some new audio magic happening, they're mostly a minor refinement of last year's excellent WH-1000XM2. So what has changed? The WH-1000XM3 uses the newer USB-C charging standard rather than a legacy microUSB connection, and there's also a bit more padding along the deck to keep your comfort snug. But that's all. At first, this lack of substantial improvement gave us some reservations about its recommendation, especially when the 1000XM2 could be found cheaper online. But those days are over. If you want a critically acclaimed earmuff that's brand new for 2018 and has over two years of experience as the best, the WH-1000XM3 is the way to go. Read the full review: Sony WH-1000XM3
