The Amazon Go platform will be sold to other stores.

Amazon has announced that it will begin selling the technology behind its Amazon Go cashless convenience stores to other retailers through a new retail line. The e-commerce giant said it has already signed several deals with customers, though it has yet to name any of the brands that will use its technology. Amazon has also created a new website for others to learn about the new service that it dubbed Just Walk Out. Just as the company built a cloud computing infrastructure to support its e-commerce website and then turned that technology on AWS, it now does the same with the technology it developed for its Amazon Go stores. Amazon Physical Vice President Dilip Kumar explained why the company's Just Walk Out technology has huge implications for retail stores across industries, saying, "Do customers like to stand in line?" This has pretty broad applicability across all sizes of stores, across all industries, as it basically solves the convenience problem in physical locations, especially when people are pressed for time.

While Amazon Go stores allow customers to scan their phones and start shopping, stores using Just Walk Out technology will require shoppers to insert a credit card through a locked turnstile to enter. The turnstile will display the "Just Walk Out technology by Amazon" logo, but all other branding and aspects of these stores will be controlled by the retailer using the service, as opposed to Amazon. Items picked up by customers will be added to their virtual shopping carts and their credit cards will be billed once they leave the store without them having to go to a checkout line or scan one of their items. . According to Kumar, Amazon will install the necessary technology for cashless payment, including overhead cameras and weight sensors in stores, whether they open a new location or upgrade an existing one. The company will also offer a 24/7 support line in case customers or retailers experience issues with Just Walk Out. Shoppers can even get a receipt for their purchase by typing their email at a kiosk at any Just Walk Out store. Amazon will send receipts to this email address each time the credit card associated with the account is used at a Just Walk Out location. Now that Amazon has announced that it will offer its Just Walk Out technology to retailers, expect more cashless stores to start popping up in major US cities. via Reuters
