The all-electric successor to the Nissan Micra soon on European roads

Nissan has announced plans to introduce a fully electric successor to the Nissan Micra in European markets.

The compact electric vehicle (EV) will become the entry-level model in the company's lineup, which is expected to include 35 new cars by 2030 as part of Nissan's Ambition 2030 project.

A new Nissan Ariya crossover and EV is "coming soon," with the brand's innovative e-POWER technology debuting on upcoming Qashqai and X-Trail models.

The successor to Nissan's electric Micra has been designed in-house but will be designed and built by Renault on the CMF B-EV platform, which will debut in 2024 with the retro-inspired Renault 5.

It seems plausible that the new Micra could arrive during the same 2024 window, though Nissan has yet to share a launch date.

According to the Japanese automaker, the new CMF B-EV platform can accommodate enough batteries to provide future electric cars with a range of 250 miles. It also reduces costs and energy consumption by 33% and 10%, respectively, compared to existing models such as the Renault Zoe.

With a starting price of €27,505 (around €30,000), the Renault Zoe is currently the most popular electric passenger car in Europe, so cutting that figure by a third could see the new Micra (and Renault 5) They sell for around €18,500 (about €21.000).

brother style

In a press release announcing the successor to the Micra, Nissan said its new CMF B-EV platform will also allow manufacturers to "maintain a unique style for their respective products."

Judging from preview images showing off its upcoming compact EV, the new Micra appears to share more than just performance specs with the Renault 5.

To our eyes, the two vehicles look remarkably similar, at least in terms of body styling. Check out a side-by-side comparison of the successor to the Micra and the Renault 5 below.

Of course, the headlight, taillight, grille, and alloy design are likely to differ between the two EVs, but since the two cars have to share the same power platform, potential customers may have trouble choose a preference.

Still, if the success of the Renault Zoe is anything to go by, Nissan and Renault are in for a winner with their impending electric offerings.
