Ted Lasso season 2 will be longer than season 1 - here's why

Ted Lasso season 2 will be longer than season 1, star Juno Temple (who plays Keeley Jones on the show) has revealed. While Season 1 had 10 episodes, Apple TV Plus picked up the series for more episodes this time around, according to the actress, which Apple later confirmed. Season 2 will consist of 12 episodes in total. The reason? The Season 2 storyline called for it, according to Apple. This comes from Collider, who spoke to Temple about the show, which has now begun filming amid a pandemic in the UK. "Well, they've happily picked us up for a few more episodes this season. So it's a longer shoot because we shoot more." Collider later confirmed with Apple that season 2 will be 12 episodes long, with the company telling the outlet that the additional episodes are necessary for story reasons. Ted Lasso has received critical acclaim, having recently been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy, and actor Jason Sudeikis is also nominated for Best Actor in the comedy category. It is one of the most acclaimed Apple TV Plus originals to date. Probably more episodes seem obvious. It's unclear when Ted Lasso season 2 will be released, but we hope to see it this year at some point.

Why would season 2 need 12 episodes?

Ted Lasso's Season 1 ended with AFC Richmond's relegation from the Premier League, and we expect Season 2 to focus on the team's comeback season in the EFL Championship. Having more episodes to help tell this story doesn't hurt, especially when the 30-minute episodes seem like they've already passed. Our best guess is that Ted Lasso will ultimately end up with the team that wins the Premier League, in an underdog story akin to Leicester City's 2015/2016 season. It sounds like the kind of feel-good moment that would make sense as a long-term goal for the series.
