TCL's first laptop at a competitive price, but not a good deal

TCL did indeed make waves at CES XNUMX, announcing new phones, new tablets, new TV motion processing technology, and even a pair of wearable screen smart glasses.

Of course, there has been one TCL product that has managed to slip under the radar for many, and the Chinese manufacturer also announced its first laptop, called the TCL Book 14GB, which is due to arrive sometime in XNUMX.

Based on the name, we deduce that TCL is surely positioning the Book 14GB as a budget offering that gives users an even cheaper alternative option to the Microsoft Surface Go XNUMX.

At €14 (about €XNUMX / AU$XNUMX), the XNUMXGB TCL Book is indeed competitively priced, though its meager specs suggest it's not going to be a good deal. unlike the company's great TVs.

Analysis: It's affordable, but at what price?

In terms of specifications, the ARM (Snapdragon 7c CPU) based Windows eleven laptop has a fourteen.1-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 16:14 and a resolution of 720 x XNUMX , which is to say the least disappointing. No matter how low the Book XNUMXGB is, XNUMXp would be a disappointing resolution on a phone, let alone a laptop in XNUMX.

We're not expecting much in terms of graphics processing either, as the TCL Book 14GB is loaded with an Adreno XNUMX, which is the exact same GPU used in many Chinese mid-range phones from manufacturers like Realme, Vivo, Xiaomi. , Oppo and more.

Fortunately, the TCL Book 14GB offers a decent supply in the storage department, with 128GB of plenty built in, as well as an SD card slot for optional storage expansion. It also offers 4G LTE functionality and up to twelve hours of battery life, which seems adequate at this price.

While certain reviewers have pointed out that there are more affordable Chromebooks on the market with better specs, larger screens, and higher 1080p resolutions, those options are clearly missing from Windows eleven, which is by far Windows eleven's biggest selling point. . 14GB TCL Book Sold: It will be interesting to see if users opt for Windows XNUMX instead of decent specs when the last XNUMXGB TCL Book launches later this year.
