Sumplete is a rival to Wordle made entirely by ChatGPT: here's how to play

ChatGPT may have created the next Wordle in the form of Supplemente, an addictive online number puzzle game.

The rules of Torch (opens in a new tab) are quite simple. You are given a grid of numbers, ranging in size from a three-by-three grid to a nine-by-nine grid, and you must remove the numbers so that those left in the columns and rows add up to the totals.

As you can see in the example below, we've removed the six and nine from the leftmost column so that the remaining digits (two, two, and three) add up to seven, while for the middle row, we had to remove everything but the center nine to reach the goal of nine.

As the grids get larger, there are more possible combinations of numbers in each row and column that add up to the goals, making it progressively harder to find a solution. Those of you ready for the ultimate challenge will appreciate the nine by nine grid because it is not only the largest, but also features negative numbers.

If Sumplete isn't your thing, then you still have Wordle to sink your teeth into, and if you need help solving today's puzzle, check out our Wordle tips on how to solve it. .

How did you create ChatGPT Supplemente?

ChatGPT didn't create Torch by itself, nor did it when you first tried to play a game, but was run by Substack user Puzzled Penguin (opens in a new tab).

He first asked the bot to suggest existing Sudoku-like puzzle games, but he had played them all before, so Puzzled Penguin thought the AI bot could come up with something new. Several iterations later, you had Sum Delete, which was later renamed Sumplete, and ChatGPT was even able to create HTML and JavaScript code for the game so Puzzled Penguin could share in the fun.

As for how the idea for Sumplete came about, ChatGPT seems to have combined two games into one. Sudoku is one of its inspirations, but Sumplete also shares some similarities with Picross; Similar to Supplemente, Picross uses hints about the content of each row and column to identify the correct points in a grid.

Only time will tell if Torch has the power of Wordle, but even if it doesn't, we hope Torch won't be the last game made with the help of ChatGPT.
