Spotify Tastebuds will help you discover music through your friends

Spotify is working on a new feature, called Tastebuds, that will allow users to discover new songs based on their friends' musical tastes. Spotify is one of the most prominent players in the music streaming space across the globe. With Tastebuds, it tries to let users know the listening habits of their friends on Spotify and even allows you to test the type of music they are listening to. Spotify Tastebuds was first discovered by Jane Manchun Wong, a security researcher and software engineer who reverse-engineered the features homepage. Wong is best known for discovering and reporting that Instagram was being hidden as accounts before the company announced the change.

How does Spotify Tastebuds work?

Spotify Tastebuds will allow users to see and listen to the songs that their friends have listened to on Spotify. If you log into the Tastebuds home page, Spotify explains the concept in one line: "Now you can discover music through friends you trust." There is a marker icon on the page that allows you to add your friends to the Tastebuds playlist. Here you can see all the songs they have played and also add them to your listening library. There is also a tab called "Heavy Rotation", which lists the most listened to tracks by your friends. Spotify's activity feed is limited to desktop computers, and app users have the ability to share their listening recommendations with other social media channels and on Instagram Stories as well. The company has yet to officially announce the Tastebuds feature, and we'll keep an eye on developments.
