South Park Season 24 Release Date Has Not Been Exactly Announced, but the season started with
a pandemic-themed special on September 30. With over 300 episodes now under its belt,
Comedy Central's adult animated sitcom remains undying, despite the fact that its quality fluctuates greatly between seasons. In season 23 of South Park, the series was in pretty good shape, with a lot of focus on a story involving Randy Marsh's Tegridy Farms.
South Park season 24 was confirmed in 2019, when the series was renewed until 2022. The popularity of the series is clearly not waning: HBO Max has paid over half a billion Euro just to air older episodes of the series and episodes like 'Band in China' suggest the show may still make headlines over controversies ( relatively minor).
Here's what we know about South Park season 24 so far, including what we plan to happen after the first few special releases.
South Park season 24 release date
South Park Season 24 doesn't have an official release date yet, but a pandemic-themed hour-long episode was released on September 30.. This marked the return of the show after the pandemic. The special is now available to stream from South Park Studios for free in the United States. Technically,
the site counts The Pandemic Special as episode 1 of the 24th season of South Park. So season 24 has technically started. It's unclear when a full season will follow, but at the end of the episode, Randy Marsh says, "I think I'll do a few more specials," suggesting that this might be the format we're enjoying South Park in for the time being.
Could we see fewer but longer episodes this season?
A big challenge for the creative team is creating South Park remotely – a video explains how it was done entirely in-house. While much of the production of TV shows has been negatively affected by the coronavirus pandemic, animation has apparently been less affected, simply because no one has to deal with the complications of filming on set with social distancing. However, presumably the fact that the animators now have the tools to make South Park from home means that production can continue through season 24.
South Park season 24 will be followed by season 25 and 26
As mentioned above, South Park has been renewed through 2022, which is expected to cover the show through seasons 25 and 26.
However, the show is likely to end sometime in the next decade.
"I don't think we've ever had an OK, let's sit down and decide if we're going to continue."co-creator Trey Parker told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year about the show's future. Co-creator Matt Stone also said in 2019:
"I'm 48 years old. Trey is turning 50 this year. So I'll say, I don't think we'll be doing this show at 60."
So assuming Parker and Stone don't change their minds (which is possible), you have between 3 and 10 seasons of South Park left.

South Park is relatively one to watch out for, depending on where you are.
In the US, HBO Max has the rights to stream the show. (with several controversial episodes missing), including new episodes, but
you can also watch them online here on the Comedy Central website. There are also DVDs of all seasons, including South Park Season 23.
