Sony would work on a new smartphone that works well

While we wait for foldable phones from Samsung and Huawei to go on sale, Sony is apparently working on flexible display technology, but in this case we're talking about a rollable phone rather than a foldable one. Tipster Max J from AllAboutSamsung says he has real information about the prototypes being built at Sony. Please note that we're talking about prototypes here, so details could change before a general release. A rollable phone from Sony could be unveiled by the end of the year, rumor has it, with a Snapdragon 855 chipset and Qualcomm X5 modem 50G chip. With these features, don't expect a cheap starting price. Given the lack of hard evidence to back up these claims, we wouldn't bet on your home just yet. However, this is an interesting index of the next step that Sony and the rest of the industry should follow.

Connect the dots

We've already seen Sony's patents detailing how rollable (and foldable) phone screens work. We also know that LG, which is supposed to provide Sony with flexible displays, has the expertise to make displays that roll. Add to that that LG and Samsung are apparently developing smartphones, and this new rumor about a Sony device is starting to look a lot more credible. A few months ago, we learned that Sony was preparing to launch an Xperia-style, 5G-style foldable phone for 2020. So next year could be the whole year for the products. Innovative Sony. In the meantime, this is the IFA 2019 exhibition in Berlin in September, an exhibition where Sony is generally very present. We might hear more about the technology there. Via Pocket Now
