Sony WH-1000XM4 to offer improved audio scaling and call quality
The long-awaited Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones haven't been officially announced, but we know all about the new cans thanks to a leak from a retailer. Sony's next-generation noise-canceling headphones have been removed from a list of Walmart products with brand new features. At the top of the list is something called "Edge-AI" for restoring lost detail in highly compressed audio files and precise voice capture that uses the five microphones in the ear cups and advanced audio signal processing to improve call quality. In addition to these recognized features, the Walmart page claims that the Sony WH-1000XM4 would have multi-point pairing, Bluetooth 5.0 and, of course, best-in-class adaptive noise cancellation. That said, they'll still use 40mm drivers, offer around 30 hours of battery life, and use a USB-C port for fast charging, the same as the WH-1000XM3. The listing had the price of the Sony WH-1000XM4 at €349, the same price that the current Sony WH-1000XM3 currently costs. If the price stays the same across all territories, you're looking at €349 and AU €419.

Why does everyone care so much about these headphones?

If you've been following the tech world for two years, you've probably heard a lot about Sony's flagship noise-canceling headphones, to the point, perhaps, where you don't know why everyone is making all the fuss. The reason why these headphones have gained such popularity is that they not only rival Bose in their noise-canceling prowess, but they offer better sound quality thanks to their support for Hi-Res Audio through their aptX codecs. HD and LDAC. If the headphones benefit from Hi-Res Audio upscaling, multipoint pairing, and better call quality as noted on the product page, expect to hear more about the WH-1000XM4 when Sony officially announces them later this year.
